Mozzarella Sticks
Mozzarella Sticks
2 eggs
1 tbsp water
1 cup dry bread crumbs
2 & 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/8 tsp pepper
12 sticks of string cheese (or regular mozz cheese cut into 4" by 1/2" sticks can be used in place of string cheese)
3 tbsp all-purpose flour
1 tbsp butter/margarine
1 cup marinara OR spaghetti sauce, heated
In a small bowl, beat eggs and water. In a plastic bag, combine bread crumbs, Italian seasoning, garlic powder and pepper. Coat cheese sticks in flour, then dip in egg mixture and bread crumb mixture. Repeat egg and bread crumb coatings. Cover and chill for at least 4 hours or overnight.
When ready to bake, preheat oven to 400 degrees. Place on an ungreased baking sheet, drizzle with butter. Bake, uncovered, for 6-8 minutes or until heated through. Allow to stand 3-5 minutes before serving. Use sauce for dipping.
Yields: 4-6 servings
