Yogurt making??

Can anyone talk me through making yogurt? Good links, how do I do this,do I need a yogurt maker or can I make do with out, do your kids like it, how do you flavor it? I don't even like yogurt, but my kids love it and I get a lot of milk each month and would like to put it to use by making yogurt for them. Oh and what kind do you buy as starter or do you buy a powdered starter? Thanks in advance for anyoen willing to take on all my questions, lol.

Well how we do it...

we go to a good indian restaraunt where they have very active culture. we get a condiment cup of it for carry out. usually no issues.

we take about 4-5 cups of milk, microwave it for around 10 minutes. let it cool in the microwave. you don't want to kill the culture.

add the culture. cover. if you are in a cool climate, then have a warm (not hot) oven, and put the culture in over night. (the oven should be off, you just want it a bit warm).

We're in Phoenix and just leave it out and covered. generally done and ready within a day. Use this as your new culture.

I bought the cheapest Salton yogurt maker on Amazon (I think $14?) and a cup of greek yogurt with active cultures. Then I followed the recipe in the book. It's kinda neat!
