I LOVE this cookbook!

http://www.worldcommunitycookbook.org/season/index.html

Simply in Season...

OK so I bought this for myself for dh to give to me for Christmas, and I love it! For a couple years now I've been trying to eat seasonal, getting all my produce at the farmers market, eating lots of cabbage and beets in the winter and berries in the summer.
This is just a gorgeous cookbook with all the recipes broken down into season. If you're familiar with the other Mennonite cookbooks like "More is Less" - this one also has little stories about everything from the state of the global agriculture to personal stories about farming and gardening.
Mainly I love it because it falls in line with what I believe about being conscious of the food we buy and eat.
I admit I haven't tried any recipes yet, lol, but they look like they strike just the right balance between simple and interesting.

ETA: And I just discovered the author has a blog. This week's recipe: Maple Turnip Stew.

Ok maybe and obvious question...
Who's season exactly is it based on? I for example, here in the midwest, see no sun for about 90 days right about this time and we have had freezing temps for about a million days it seems... Our gowing season seems to last about a nano second etc.
I am kidding for sure, but really is it regional? Or is it more the average?

Well, I live in Missouri. We definately get real winters, and compared to Texas, where I moved here from, the produce is a lot more limited.
Ya know, that's a good question. I guess they kind of take the average. But they do have contributions from all over the country - like a story of a family from San Antonio that doesn't have central heat but it gets just chilly enough in winter to keep the house warm by simmering a pot of beans all day.

Looks like a really interesting book! Might see if my library carries it. Thanks!
