Need a good hamburger recipe

I want to grill hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill today, but I don't want to buy Bubba burgers (it's what we love, but at 9 bucks a box I want something cheaper). Whenever I try to make hamburgers myself out of bulk hamburger, they fall apart on the grill.

Anybody have any recipes or techniques for me?

First when you form your burgers, roll them into a tight, compact ball then the smoosh with the palm of your hand ( you want to do this *right* before you throw them on the grill. I mend the sides where it cracks from being smooshed, so it is smooth all the way around

Make sure your grill is very very hot and do not flip the burgers until the bottom is nice and brown ( I have found that my burgers fall apart if I flip them too early) I use my spatula to press on the meat while the first side is cooking. When you flip, flip fast and press again LOL

I dont usually add anything to my burgers but montreal steak seasoning. and when they are almost done, throw some cheese on them

and us?

I just put some dry onion soup mix in with my burger, as long as the burger isn't too lean. If it is too lean, I'll add some milk and egg to it.

I have saved a lid from an old peanut butter jar and I line it with plastic wrap. I take some burger mix and press it into the lid. It makes a nice circle and it is compact enought that it doesn't fall apart.

Good luck!

Thank you both! The grill is heating up now, so I'm going to try the onion soup and egg. That's a great idea about the peanut butter jar lid, I"m giong to try that too.

I'm sure you are already eating your burgers but I thought I'd add my "recipe"

I use an egg, 2 TB of A-1, dash of garlic powder and onion powder and some fresh ground black pepper per 1lb of meat. Always yummy.

I usually make my patties up in big batches. I mix up the meat/seasonings then weigh out 1/4lb portions in to regular sandwich baggies. Smoosh them with the TW hamburger press then close the baggies. I freeze all the individual patties in a 1gal freezer bag. Makes for a quick and easy dinner.

In fact, this is what we are doing for dinner tonight.
