Do you feel that your daycare enforces their sick policies?

Just wondering, S keeps getting sick, I feel like there are children there a lot that should be at home. I'm trying to decide if I should say anything. Adding that he is in a 5 star center the highest rating in the state, the only 5 star in our county. I really don't want to move him, but maybe a home daycare might be better. Less children less germs.

Except for a couple of weeks, my dd has been in a home daycare since she was 3 months old.
The few weeks she spent in a daycare, she was sick the entire time.

I love my babysitter, they are family and treat dd so well.

If you can find a good home daycare, go for it!

Usually kids get turned away for fevers, vomiting, diarhea and misc other symptoms.

Not generally for runny noses and more minor symptoms.

What are the guidelines in your contract or parent policy?

My kids have been in daycare PT or home care and now school and don't get sick. I don't think it is related to daycare. Some kids just get sick.

Sadly, a lot of them don't. Also, sick caregivers are often the source of illnesses as a lot of daycares will not allow them days off even if they are feverish/vomiting/diarrhea, I have seen and experienced this firsthand. They also may not be cleaning properly and then there is just the kids in daycare get sick thing. Then there are also the caregivers who do not wash their hands after wiping noses (a child's or their own), diaper changes (even with gloves, you gotta wash after) and even who use the same tissue on more than one kid. Often kids share cups and such (even though they are not supposed to, it can be tough at times for one caregiver to watch sixteen 3 and 4 year olds)and don"t wash their hands, etc so illness spreads more readily in those type of group environments.

Now, not every daycare is like this, it does depend a lot on the owners and management. when I was working in one, I completely enforced the illness policies in my nursery. I know it can be difficult for a parent to leave work to come and get their child and find alternate care but it is necessary, in most states, it is a state policy, not just a daycare policy. We went through gloves and tissues and paper towels like crazy becasue i was making darn sure everyone who was working in there was washing their hands and using fresh tissues every time and properly cleanign and disinfecting the diaper changing table, etc. It did cut down on the amount of sick babies rather drastically. I can be a bit anal retentive about these things though, not everyone is.

I'm sorry your little one keeps getting sick

I'm glad your kids don't get sick, but I'm failing to see how this post is helpful.

As far as cleaning, I think they really do try. It has to be hard to keep 6 1-2 year olds from sharing germs. Also sometimes with babies it's hard to tell how sick they are, they can't tell you how they feel. Sometimes it is borderline. It's just frustrating, I just want to say "get your green snot nosed kids away from my baby!!".
