WWYD about my job? Need others opinions.
I have been working at my job full-time for over a year now. The older I get it seems the harder it is for me to make big decisions. I was a stay at home mom for 8 years, before that my background was always in sales and I always did awesome in any position. Before searching the job market I got my p&c insurance licenses. (This is not a easy or cheap thing to do). I am licensed to sell auto, home, renters, boat, motorcycles, commerical, flood, etc. I do not have a college degree and I thought that having my licenses would give me a nitch in the job market for a better salary. I am working solely for financial reasons.
Things I don't like about my current job.
-I am making on average $500-$600 less a month then I was projected to. Boss does not have an issue with my production, he says it's the economy. I have not earned the projected amount even once since I started.
-Personal heath insurance (myself only) used to be covered 100% now the owner changed it and I have to pay $55 a pay for it.
-I have thousands of quotes, but our rates truely are very high. Since customers are shopping rates these days I rarely sell anything.
-No 401K or retirement plans, no group life insurance or disability plans.
-Our company just took bailout money on Friday from the government. I hope this doesn't turn into a AIG situation.
-I cannot afford the companies health plan for my 2 children so I have to pay over $300 a month for our states CHIP health insurance for them.
-My hourly rate is low. Boss has not mentioned my yearly raise or review I was promised in the interview.
-Boss seems to be pretty much a penny pincher. For example I worked through lunch on Monday for an hour because he had an appt. Friday I took off an hour early and he still docked my check for it. This left a very bad taste in my mouth. Petty I know, but I think it speaks to his frugalness.
Things I like about my job-
-I love the people I work with. There is no one that I don't get along with.
-Flexible hours, boss with let me use my vacation time in hour intervals if I have a child issue. Important as my dd has asperger's.
-Very short commute (10 mintues).
-I like my office. lol
-Down times I can get away with things. (Like surfing the net for a few mintues).
I also feel guilty quitting because in the interview boss said he wanted someone long term. I'm just afraid of burning bridges. If I get a new job the commute will be longer. On the other hand my current car will not last too much longer and I can't afford to replace it at my current job. I promised myself once I was there if things weren't better in a year I would make a decision. Now I need to.
Thanks if you got this far! Any advice welcome.
