Still on the fence

About applying for a full time gig at the school where I just finished a temp job.

I was told on 3 different occasions that they were looking to hire a male. At the same time, they were asking me to submit my resume in case the hiring of a male doesn't work out.

On one hand, it's a really ideal job. On the other, the whole "we prefer a male" thing is hard for me. Yes, the whole admissions team is currently female, and it does make sense to add a male to the team--I get that. But for them to say that to my face just rubs me the wrong way.

This school also gives strong preference to "people of color." Again, I don't have a problem with that. But for them to say and act so very directly is a bit bothersome. I'm not loving the artificial equality.

Any thoughts? I really hope I'm not slammed here. I wouldn't want to exclude anyone based on race, creed, or color, but it seems to be the (un)spoken norm.
