Final Exam

Nathan started his final exam for EPGY today.

The words final exam give me the heebie geebies... I know, my issue.

BUT, Nathan absolutely HATES to write anything down. He seriously will not write down the problems - he expects to be able to do them in his head. He's been doing long division with multiple digits for well over a year, but every single time he has to sit and write a problem he gets frustrated and angry. He expects that he will just KNOW the answer, and he doesn't want to put any effort into figuring something out if he doesn't know the answer right away. This is NOT good. He has not had to work to figure things out until recently - and he really does NOT want to have to put any thought/effort into ANYTHING.

And I know it's HIS test, but *I* feel like I am being tested on how good I am helping him. Again, I know, my issue.

Airon hates to write things down too!

So, how did it go?

Airon wasn't getting enough math time in and he is/was in danger of not finishing the course on time. So, now he is on a self-imposed strict diet of 80 minutes of EPGY a day. He does two-40 minute sessions.

Well, he bombed one area (graphing, he kept mixing up which number to graph vertical and horizontal). sigh... so they put him back at 4.8... and he's working from there. He's almost ready for the final again. But he's taking this week off - he's in science camp every day from 8-3.

Oh, and this kid also completely bombed the placement test fro EPGY. They wanted to place him in 3rd grade math. Um... no. I asked him about it and he got a grin on his face and said he didn't even read the problems, he just clicked answers. I talked to the placement person and she just laughed. She put him in 5th grade math - and then he's going to continue to do the EPGY, too. I'm also talking to them about gifted funding for the special education program - and possibly using some of those funds for EPGY. THAT would be cool if the school would pay for it. My mom says she is able to get schools to pay for EPGY for some of her students... so... hmmm.

Yes try to get funding. Vidura will do Epgy English/language next year and it'll be paid partly by the school system, and through other scholarships through Duke and something the DYI hooked us up with (I need to re-read the email and call this week)
