I was thinking of starting a website, but how and how much $?

I have NO clue where to start. I would like a website to sell some of my goods on but I'm wondering how much they cost to run. DH is OK with me spending a few bucks to start it up or a few bucks a month but like I said I have no idea how much it would cost. I would like a site that I can put pics on and maybe a graphic or two nothing fancy and does it cost $ to have a shopping cart?
I'm just full of questions LOL

Thanks anyone who can help

I don't know about the shopping cart cause obviously one wouldn't work with mine. I have to have a lot of detail description/information from the buyer for the junk I make.

I just use a FREE site. Yes, you'll get pop-ups or banners on it, but I have a Pop-up blocker so it doesn't bother me when I look at the free sites. I use Tripod and it's easy to use.

You may want to talk to Barb, as she does the shopping cart & all that fancy, but non-expensive stuff.

Wish I could help more, but nobody responded & I felt what lil I did know might help you out.

Good Luck

Hi

I have a $6/mo site. I did the original site work myself, it was redsigned by Patrysha earlier. I have Front Page. I have PayPal and will be getting the shopping cart through there, it's free, although for being a Business you have to pay fees for using Credit Cards. The $6/mo website includes hosting, like 25 email addys, and domain registration. And there's no pop ups. Please let me know if you want more info.

Hugs,
tammy

nods. i work with tony at wahmshoppes. I know some folks have had issues with him and his site, but i've never had any problems. I have a $7/mo instock store (only) with mals shopping cart. I can set up vouchers, free shipping etc and direct paypal payments.

for me its user friendly, easy and cheap.

Thanks for the help mamas.
I have another question that occured to me. I don't know if you all are familliar w/my playcapes but I use character fabric like spider man and dora etc. I am wondering if I could run into legal problems using them and putting them on my website? I have seen WAHM diapers using the same fabrics so I'm assuming it's ok but it's def. worth asking IMO

Thanks

Well, I think there are different opinons on this, but legally, I don't think you are allowed to sell character prints to make a profit.... I did sell a quillow once with winnie the pooh on it but at the time, didn't know NOT to, kwim? I do know that there are some bakeries that no longer make character cakes for this reason. You could email/contact the companies, such as Walt Disney & such to ask just to make sure.

Not sure if any of these websites will help you or not, as I've not actually looked them over, but they are on a site that I frequent about a selling stuff out of the home.

You can get a free site at Bizhosting and if you want your own domain Aplus has them for $5.95 AND Mals is another free shopping cart that is pretty easy to set up. If you need a WYSIWYG program to design a web page in Mozilla is free as well. But Bizhosting has templates too that you can use only thing is their shopping cart only works if you pay- but you can replace the code with Mals if you have any q's feel free to contact me! Good luck!

One more thing if you want to pay for hosting Ehostpros is a good one. It's like $5 a month and you can run as many sites off of one hosting plan as you want.

I also recommend not going with a free site, if you wish to project a professional, stable image.

In many cases, you may have to put up a chunk of change up front -- but this will result in fewer charges down the line. This is especially true if you need to rely on others for setup and design of your site.

I've heard good things about www.watersweb.com
I am currently using www.builderspot.com and am fairly happy with it.

Anise does beautiful work, as does Michelle from Dove's Design.
