The Vimala AlphabetŪ: Reaffirming our noblest truths"With the Vimala Alphabet, the kids have a chance to begin their lives from a Spirit-focused approach instead, as adults, having to REdesign their attitudes to get there."

We are a group of parents exploring the use of the Vimala Alphabet with ourselves and our children. I will post here some ideas of where to start and some thoughts from Vimala. We are just starting up as a forum so it might take a few weeks to get all the information up that we want. Thanks to everyone who's taken a look so far and we will get this more useful soon.

I've been asked where to start after reading the book Your Handwriting Can Change your Life. Assuming you are working with children, this is what I recommend:
1) Starting practicing with your own handwriting changes
2) Show your child(ren) their names in the Vimala Font. I own her computer font and am willing to create a pdf file for folks using her book. Send me a private message with your full names and email and I will email you it.
3) As you are able, start modeling the handwriting in everything you do with your children.
4) Practice writing your names together.
Vimala is in the middle of creating a new manual for us so I would not recommend buying the old one. Depending on your resources, I would recommend the font so you can print out anything in the font. It's great. Others reallly like the alphabet cards she sells.
I still haven't got this whole thing clear in my mind. So are we to teach Vimala as the ONLY handwriting? My five year old is already writing and it seems that everything I'm supposed to teach is in the big, chunky block letters. Looking toward cursive, this has me wondering ... is this taught to take the place of BOTH print and cursive? And it's also a method of accessing our own inner "truths"? Sorry to be so clueless. I've just stumbled onto this and it's got me bumfuzzled.
You have got it -- the Vimala print-script replaces cursive and printing.
Have you seen what it looks like yet? I can send you a sample (I have the comptuer font that she developed to help teachers). PM me your email address and your name or a favorite poem, etc that I can send you.
And yes, as far as releasing our inner truths -- each letter stoke is designed to free us and make us whole -- our body and mind are so connected -- so if you notice how you write when you are angry or happy - it's different .. the opposite is true -- how you write can affect how you think. But it' s not brainwashing or anything -- it's allowing us to be who we truly are ...
Her book Your Handwriting Can Change Your Life will explain better than I ever can. (library should have it or I can send you a copy at cost) I bought 12 copies to share with my friends and family.
Where can I get the computer font? I love that idea!
I have both her books, but haven't yet started practicing myself! What are the plans for this group? Are we going to study together? work through the letters together? I'm a bit confused as to what will be happening here in this forum.
Thanks!
Robin

If you send me a p.m with your email address, I can create your name in the font and send you an adobe file. Might take a few days as I need a third person to convert the file.
(As an aside, if you really love the font -- you can buy it from Vimala's website -- iihs.com. But she will be releasing a new teacher's guide for parents in the next few months and selling it as a package so you might want to wait.)
I love your question about this forum and its purpose. I think we saw this forum as a place to share what we are learning and pose questions. I hadn't thought of being as structured as a study group. Some of us here are also on a separate yahoo list so the energy is sometimes split between both places ...
Folks are working on their own practice as well as teaching their children.
As far as which letters to practice on first -- each person has a particular area that is most important to them. ONce you look at your writing, you could compare your letters to the vimala script and see which ones are most different. Or you could pick out which ones in the description in the book are more appealing to you.
Hope this helps and hope to hear from others,
Deborah
Thank you, Deborah! I need the infusion of energy myself. Could you tell me the yahoo group? I'd like to get in on that. Sometimes I really need a "kick in the pants" when it comes to getting my own stuff done and making time for me. I'll send you a pm with my name and email for the font. Guess it makes more sense to wait for the package.
Thanks again!
Robin
Hi Ann,
I'd love to but I don't know how to! Once I figure that out, I will post a picture of my son's work on his signature. Vimala's website is iihs.com and if you look at the writing next to the picture of the book, that is the print-script.
The letter t is about discipline and follow - through. If the cross bar intersects the upright stroke, it indicates less commitment to followthrough than the tall t.
I remember my first reaction to the script many years ago -- some of the letters I couldn't stand. But it is less about how the letters look and more about what character the letters uncover in oneself.
The only way to really get it is to try it. Try changing one or two of your own letters for 40 days and see what happens. The more difficult it is to change the stroke, the more impact changing the letter will have.
Just doing some tidying up here -- since I have this thread as in intro thread, I am going to close it so that it doesn't get too long. Will open up another one for questions.
