According to this article our Government has just declared FF a vegetable. They did state however it is not the same as an apple but that battered fries are technically a vegetable. Huh! (I really love fries but "a minute on the lips A lifetime on the thighs" and you all know I have LARGE thighs.
ick - while at the dr for ds a couple months ago I was watching the little tv they have set up with some health channel on and it said that the #1 vegetable eaten by children is french fries! I couldn't believe it was considered a veggie!

it really makes me sick to work at a restaraunt and the ONLY thing offered with child's menus is fries. they don't even list veggies as an option. and i have only seen one family request veggies instead. amazing!!! with all the hydrogenated oils and such, its so far away from its natural potato state that it should not be considered a vegetable!

I guess potatoes are veggies, but I wonder how much potato is really in a french fry - like if you were to do a chemical analysis or something, what % would be potato and what % would be oil & salt...lol. Would say a strawberry shake or can of Fresca be considered a fruit?

That is one of my cravings during this pregnancy. I don't consider a vegetable at all though...just junk food. Don't know why I crave it...I guess the saltiness or something.
One time I went to Jason's Deli to get a wrap. On one wrap chips or fruit comes with it and the other wrap you get chips. I chose the one with chips, but asked if I could have fruit instead. I've done this several times before because if they let you do it on one sandwich why not the other? Well the guy told me it was going to cost $1 extra. I'm cheap, plus the idea annoyed me so I didn't pay it. I hope they don't consider chips a vegetable anytime soon or ever. I was talking to LH about this, this morning about how disgusting it was and how fast foods now can claim that they have "fresh vegetables."
hey, does anyone ever know what happened with that mcdonald's lawsuit that happened about a year ago or so? the one where the hindu guy was filing a class action against them for listing beef "juice" a natural flavor in the fry ingredients.
because, if they still have beef "juice" in them, they are DEFINATELY not a veggie!!
The Irish girl in me wants to say, there is a potato in there SOMEWHERE...and a potato is a root vegetable...
But the idea of it fulfilling a requirement as a serving of vegetable, especially for children, is awful...reagan tried to do the same thing with ketchup, remember? Wow, two servings of vegetables right there!
I'm pretty sure the the frying of the potato takes out most of its nutritional value...I'll check into that tho'...
I have to say, I had a proud moment the other day when I came home & dh was making baked french fries for the kids w/olive oil & nutriitonal yeast...I may be getting through to him...
