I have done the vegetarian thing in college, went off, then on again after I married and am certainly not one now but I am really starting to worry about my health and my ability to be here for my children and their children. I am thinking of doing a juice fast and then from that going to a vegetarian diet. I have tried to be a vegan like my hubby but I just can't do it I love cheese and ice cream too much... I can take tofutti but soy cheese? I can not handle that stuff and veggie cheese is not pure veggie it has caesin in it. So I am asking do you think that if someone like me who has damaged her body for the last 3 years with pure junk can go on a juice fast for say 2 weeks and the flow into a vegetarian diet maybe I should juice fast for longer to really flush the toxins out of my system? Any advice? I do have a past of Bulimia so don't want any "strict diets" or fad diets because they tend to stress me in a way that makes me want to revert back to those bad habits. I need to feel like I am free in my food choices like I choose to be vegetarian not you must be vegetarian yah know!
I don't know anything about juice fasts, never done one.
Have you tried rice cheese? they do make vegan cheese w/out casein in it. A bit harder to find but it's out there. I know I like rice cheese a whole lot better than soy cheese.

i would think that you should go on a fast for however long your body tells you to. of course, you will be hungry and you will probably feel different while on the fast, but I wouldn't set out a specific length of time to do a juice fast. you could damage yourself worse. i also don't think it would hurt if you just went straight into being vegetarian without even really doing a fast. eating a veggie and grain based diet is a form of fasting in itself. maybe doing that for 2 weeks would be safer. i would try a juice fast for maybe a couple of days. that's should be enough. i've read its not the length of the fast, but the type and its good to do them, not frequently, but recurrently.
good luck.
Veganism can be hard especially when there are certain dairy products that you love. Whenever I am tempted to eat an animal product I just remember all the suffering that went into that product and I immediately lose my appetite for it.(not to mention all the cholesterol and saturated fat in many animal products) I think vegans should just basically forget the idea of cheese ever existed. There will never be a vegan cheese that tastes like cow's cheese so when you eat a vegan cheese (i recommend veganrella cheddar) you should just like it for what it is. Also sprinkle Nutritional Yeast on your food if you want it to taste cheesier. Not only does it have a cheesy taste, it has B vitamin which vegans really need. Something that really helped me remind myself of the animal's suffering is watching the Tribe of Heart film, Peaceable Kingdom, sponsored by farm sanctuary. The images in that film are so heart wrenching you'll be vegan for life! If you would like a copy I will be happy to make you one.
When I became vegan I first drank a psyllium shake to help rid my colon of all the impurities.
Yes, learning from the Farm Sanctuary has really made me think about switching to vegan. Would you be willing to loan out that tape?

I just realized I only have one vcr so i can't make copies. I only have one copy. It costs a $20 donation to buy it. Maybe we could pass around the tape. I just hope if we do this it will get watched and passed and not just thrown on a pile of someone's to do list forever. I'm going to make a post and see how many people are interested. Also on the tape is an extremely powerful documentary called The Witness. It follows a construction worker turned vegan who talks about the evils of the fur industry.
oh, i am so interested, but i just know that i would be that person who would let it end up in their to do list forever.
i'm thinking about buying it, though, thanks for the tip!
