Vegan because. . . .

A lot of people become Vegan for different reasons. What are your reasons? Mine are both health and the philosophy. I no longer buy leather and am looking forward to my first pair of hemp shoes (they are so stylish!)

Is everyone in your home Vegan? My daughter and I are but my dh and dogs are not. (My dogs probably would go for it as long as they still get their peanut butter biscuits!)

I am a vegan primarily because I felt like such a hypocrit telling my son that i love animals, that they have feelings, should be respected, and considered family memebers, and then eating an animal raised in a commercial farm. (YUCK!) at first i thought well if i could afford to eat all grass fed, free range, and organic that would be ok but since i can't I'll go vegan. but now I couldn't eat an animal regardless of how it was raised. As a fringe benefit it's much moreearth friendly and i feel soo much better these days.

edited to add that dh tries with varying degrees of success to be a vegan and ds is except when we go to grandmas because she invariably smuggles him some crap.

at first I became vegan cuz of the whole animals ethics issue. I've stayed vegan because my health has improved, it's better environmentally and the animals
My hubby is mostly vegan- still eats cheese now and then. He doesn't like soy or rice cheese

Considering we have two grandmas and two great grandmas, I know the feeling!
