List of 'sweet' movies

I wanted to do a list of family movies. I know everyone has their criteria and favs, but I want a really long list to refer to. I am not going to add animae or cartoons. I love finding Nemo etc, but I don't actually enjoy cartoons or computer generation. Heretic. I get headaches sometimes from the movement, color etc. Which is also why my list does not have Totoro or Spirited Away etc. Maybe be can do a sep list of those?

Here are my offerings for the whole family. (Would others put A Knight's Tale here? I'm not sure of the rating, whcih is why Harry Potter etc isn't on my list). I also tried not to put smart -mouthed kids or inappropriate sexual stuff on the list.

Singing in the Rain *
Indian in the Cupboard
The Borrowers
Princess Bride
Wild America *
The Homecoming (Pilot for The Walton's starring Patricia Neal as Ma)
93 minute pilot that started The Little House on the series. (1974)
Eloise, and Eloise's Christmas *
Mary Poppins *
The original Cheaper By The Dozen (was there a teen alcohol party in the new one?)
Meet Me in St Louis *
It's a Wonderful Life*
Wizard of Oz
Yours, Mine and Ours
Whale Rider
Kristen's Fairy House
Fairytale
Beethoven I
Willow
Dreamer
Because of Winn Dixie *
Never Ending Story 1 & 2
The Cinderella Story?
Ella Enchanted
Secondhand Lions
March of The Penguins
Flubber?
The Preacher's Wife *
Milo and Otis
Homeward Bound I
October Sky

Stars are designating my favs-- I couldn't think of anything at all controversial in these. WoO didn't get a star because of the witch and flying mokeys scare factor, fi. And The Borrowers is good, but about exterminating the little family.

Kristen's Fairy House is very sweet, it is also only 40 minutes long.
We haven't really gotten into watching long movies yet, though we did watch Mary Poppins, and Lydia *loved* it!

The Lucille Ball version had a teen alcohol party? Is there a new one, maybe? It's been a while. My memory is terrible.

What is the movie where partying teens collapse a deck on the beach, and the underage girl character is propositioned and given a beer?

Cute otherwise.

Although there are several of these...

Oh yes! It is the new version of Yours, Mine, & Ours that just came out on video that had the alcohol thing.

The deck collapsing thing was on Beethoven 2, and I am not sure if that one would be good for the list. The first one was perfectly suitable for all ages though. There are seriously like 7 of those now!

I much prefer the old Yours, Mine, and Ours over the new one.

I like Dreamer.

OOOh - I'm bumping this becauase it is a great list.

Hmm. . . What can I add?

There is a musical version of Cinderella with Brandy as Cinderella and Whoopie Goldberg as the Fairy Godmother. My girls love this.

They also like the Shirly Temple version of Heidi, but my middle dd is very sensitive. and always cries at the end when the aunt tries to take her away and they arrest the grandfather. It is a pretty tense momnet.

I have been bad about looking for things like this lately, and I don't even know if they still exist, but what about older Disney like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Escape to Witch Mountain, Tomisina, etc? I don't really even remember all of them. . . I'll have to search my library database later.

We just let the kids watch For the Love of Benji the other day, Dh and I thought it would be OK, but at the end the bad guy has the daughter at gunpoint, and that bothered me a lot.

My older daughter loved the Pride and Prejudice miniseries with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehele. I think the closest it comes to inappropriate is describing the character of the man that one of the daughters "elopes" with - but everyone is horrified, yk? And it's not really explicit to the details, you just get that he is an untrustworthy man looking to take advantage of a young girl, and that she is a girl who has made a bad choice that has gotten her into trouble. I love that my 8 year old rolls her eyes at the girl and claims that she would never be that silly, lol.

OK, does anyone have a link to this movie review website I remember. . . I think it was Christian based, what I liked about it is that it was very, very specific so you could make your own decisions - it would list how many curses, specific instances of mouthy kids or innuendo, blatent sexuality, etc. I lost the link, but it was great for this sort of thing. . .

Jennifer, I think that site is kids-in-mind.com.

I would NOT include The Muppet Movie because there is a scene with a gun. (And a muppet isn't holding it.) I previewed that movie for Sam and was glad that I did, because we're generally anti-gun for his movies.
