I LOATHED that movie.. it just really grossed me out. The thought of a fully grown woman totally falling in love with a 10 year old.. ugh.. that was the second time in a month that I got a movie like that from Blockbuster and didn't fully realize what it was about.. the first one I got was The Woodsman with Kevin Bacon? OMG I cried throughout the whole movie because of the content.. I couldn't believe they made a movie like that.. ugh...
I know pedaphilia is about.. but I DO NOT like watching it in movies yk?
Anyhow.. my take on Birth.. was that he was NOT her dh.. was just a screwed up kid who followed the friend, found the letters.. read them, found out that a man named Sean died 10 years ago, same time he was born, so he just put two and two together in his mind and deduced that he was Sean. I don't remember the end/wedding thing though. *lol* I never took it to believe that he was THE Sean though.

wow cheryl, i never thought of it as her falling in love w/ a boy..LOL. and pedophelia *never* entered my mind. she thought it WAS her dh..kwim?
i did enjoy it..the symbolism of her dh running through the tunnel (being born) then back in to the tunnel to die...then the baby was born.
yea, it is one of those flicks that leaves you hanging b/c when he said " don't tell anna" it could have been about a. the affair, or b. that he was *not* sean.
the only part that i didn't get is *why* she wigged out...i am guessing it is b/c she eventually DID think it was him, and he didn't remember anymore.
the reason i thin it was him is b/c i saw a show on past lives w/ this one kid..his memory for details, etc... was dead on, but after a certain age it started to fade & then he recalled nothing.
I may have to check this movie out. I thought The Woodsman was wonderfuly done. Not the most pleasent of subjects, but I found it interesting to really see how sick this man was and how he knew he was sick and his stuggle. Anyway the human mind amazes me even the not so pleasent stuff. I think we have Birth on SOD right now so I'll have to order it later and maybe join the conversation

Nicole, can i add a hearty AMEN SISTAH to that???
That movie made me want to hurl. I could have written your post. The bathtub scene was imo totally out of line.

I guess it just bothered me more because of past issues I have. To me, it just seemed to freak me out getting so close to a little 10 year old boy even IF it WERE her husband reborn. Letting him climb naked into a bathtub with her? Even if they didnt "do" anything, still seemed just a wee bit too much for me. If I were to find out someone I loved was reborn into someone 20 years youinger than I, well lets just say we'd become friends.. definitely NOT lovers again. Just icked me out I guess.. obviously just one persons opinion. *lol*
Oh & I agree I thought the Woodsmen WAS done well.. again I guess I just didnt like the subject matter. I loved watching his inner turmoil & trying to fight his obsession.. however, I think the biggest reason I didnt really like the movie was because for some reason I thought I rented a horror flick!

Well It was more of a thriller then a Horrer, so I can see how you would have been disapointed ;-) I was very uncomfortable with the subject as well. It's not something that is enjoied that's for sure. I just thought it was interesting to see a movie from the Pedofiles POV instead of the victom. Maybe the more we come to understand this the disease the more likly we are to help people with it. IMO it is truly a sickness like anything else and needs to be treated as such. Punishing pedofiles dosen't IMO do much. As we saw in the movie. Yes he went to jail, but he was still sick and he knew it. Alrighty I am rambeling. I think I will check out Birth later on tonight

ok, anyone besides me think this WAS a good movie? LOL
just like anything in life, everyone interprets things differently.
i guess i saw it from a movie making pov & enjoyed it for that reason, also i like trying to figure out the questions that come up in movies, that aren't necessasarily answered IN the film, kwim?
the bathtub scene didn't bother me at all , i think the entire film was very well done.
still hoping someone else has an idea about the end...lol ~

I found it disturbing about the whole sex issue though.
where did you all see this sex stuff? i recall anna & her fiance' getting it on but.....
anna told sean they'd run away & when he was 21, they'd get married. *shrug* he kissed her once very lightly & the bathtub scene was very innocent imo.
the anne heche charc. told sean she was "willing to explore this" if it were indeed sean-dead dh, she was creepy i thought.
everything btw anna & sean the boy i thought was beautifully done.

Yeah, the Anne thing was definitely yucky. That is one incident I was referring to. The other thing that kinda creeped me out is when Nicole asked him how he would please her. They really could have left that whole aspect out. The kiss could have been on her cheek, and he could have touched her face.
It was just too much.
If he was 16 maybe it would have been more appropriate?

well see - i took her questioning him as a test.. that was before she really believed him, kwim? i don't think she was being serious, i guess that's why it didn't bother me.
again, it must be the film freak in me ...lol, but imo somtimes you need to push the envelope, if you will ~ to make a point.. imo that kiss expressed SO much feeling...he missed her & loved her.. that's what i got from it.
the way he touched her face...not how a 10yo would do it...lol.
anne heche was the creepiest part of the whole thing..yuk.
I hated that movie! Me and dh were cracking up watching it b/c like half the seasons were just of some one sitting there not saying a word for like 30 seconds...it moved sooo slow. I swear if they cut all that out it would be 30 minutes long
It *was* her dh re-incarnated. He was remembering when he loved his wife though, and didn't remember the affair.
I found it disturbing about the whole sex issue though.
how do you know that it was him?
I saw 3/4 of it, i missed the beginning. my parents saw the whole thing and we all felt he wasnt him but not totally sure. It was a lil confusing, annoying, and disapointing!
I also was bothered by the naked bathtub seen. It was too much for me.
I dont remember about the end. I think she realized weither or not the lil boy was her dead husband that she was making a mistake. Likethe guy she married was the cancelation prize and not someone who held her heart.
I found it sad and was totally bummed.
