DVD reviews: Foreign Film misc. Kandahar, Yana's Friends, Late Marriage
I am on my foreign film junket and here is a set of reviews of some I just saw
Kandahar.
Made about a Canadian woman who tries to get into Afghanistan to stop her sister from killing herself at the next eclipse. She is unfamiliar with the country under Taliban rule and so we see it thru her eyes. I recommend it for a glimpse of what that country has gone thru. The commentary with the actress in the special features is very informative about the country.
Yana's Friends.
About an apartment of people living in Israel during the Gulf War of 1990. Quirky group of people. Likable as you get to know more about them. A risque sex scene somewhere in the middle.
Late Marriage
Another movie from Israel. Totally adult subject matter. A man is in love with a divorcee and his family wants him to marry a young woman with no past (they try to arrange a marriage for him) Big sex scene. Interesting characters and tricky ending.
Phew! Now, I will make a point of watching something without subtitles!
