Why can't you Tolkein fans just leave us alone?? I am not into it either, and my dh has seen the movies. He liked them, I don't feel like spending my time that way. I may read the books someday, but I'm in no hurry.
Will my quality of life be changed for the better if i see the LOTR movies? I think not.
Once dh told me that the elf that Liv Tyler plays is not at all in the books, my desire to see the movies plummeted even further - if it isn't a faithful representation of the books, why bother?
DH wants to convert me too. Sadly, I am just not interested!! Those type movies are just not my cup of tea and he knows it. One day I will let my eyes glaze over and watch one of them with him, but all three?? No way, Jose!!

Here's my point of view...I LOVED LOTR...(though I usually watch romantic comedies, I decided to humor my brother and watched them with him and then liked them so!)...
...why not share something I enjoyed with someone I love? After all, how many times have I sit through action flicks, gone to ska or rock concerts (I prefer pop or R&B) and listened to NPR on the radio?... Especially something he thinks he is not GOING to like because of the genre alone?
I think it's a good trade-off!

Probably not...but it's a good set of three movies. A thumbs up from me!
p.s...we are starting it in a few minutes...off to pop some popcorn!!!
I just don't get these movies either.
I saw parts or the first one, most of the second one and it only kept my interest because I love Gollum or whatever his name is. I can't remember what the movie was about tho.
So last night my sister brought over the third one and we watched it, and it was sort of interesting because Gollum was in it again, but I still don't understand what is going on in it.
My 17 yo niece was sitting by me and we kept asking each other what is going on?
Not slamming anybody tho for liking them, I love old campy B&W horror movies and even ones that aren't horror. Anyone else love Eraserhead???

I saw the first in the theatre with dh. He is a big fan. The second I opted out of. I watched it on DVD and fell asleep. It was a big faux paus in front of dh.
I saw the third in the theatre and loved it.
The story and movie are really incredible. It is not my usual genre, but I loved it for what it was.
I do, however love Harry Potter and Star Wars! I'm really looking forward to those movies. I think Star Wars will be out in 2005.

Ah Stacy can you believe I haven't watched Star Wars. I make the excuse that I was still living in the Philippines when it came out! LOL (It doesn't work with dh believe me,like it's not on video or something!). But I'm sure I will watch it in 2005 because my dh is excited about it.

Your dh is incorrect. She is in the books. She's one of only three elfen (elven? not sure how to spell that) women ever who marry a human. She's also one of the reasons Aragorn becomes a ranger (to prove himself and grow and mature).
They did change a few small things, but nothing as big as that if I remember correctly. They did have to leave some things out that deepend the story, but that's a time issue. Can you imagine how long the movies would be if they kept it all in?!
I loved all 3 movies! Had to watch the third one at home, though, since I couldn't/can't bring baby ds, and I wasn't willing to leave him home.
Can't wait to see Star Wars!!!
And ditto on the sexy men!!

GOOD LUCK! I thik the movies are 3 of the best movies ever....
I have NEVER been able to get through the books at all..they are SO confusing and LONG...so thank god for the movies lol
My husband told me they are pretty true to the books though.. he always tells me when things are different and it seems to me the only difference really is that they had to elave out a bunch of stuff, particularly in the last movie becuase otherwise it would have been 7 hours long instead of 3. lol

Do you realize how unAmerican that is?
My dh laughs at me regarding a lot of pop culture stuff. I only bought my first pair of Levis about 3 years ago. He also couldn't believe I've never tasted Apple Jacks.
Eye candy? No one ever told me there were hot guys in the movies!! I'll confess, my new plan is to watch them tonight. I hope you are right ladies. I'll post my review.

Where does she appear in the books? I was telling dh this, and he hasn't seen her yet, and it 3/4 through the second book.
And I don't think anyone who has not yet seen Star Wars can throw stones at those who have not seen LOTR.
edited to add that I saw parts of a couple of the movies, and never saw any hot men. maybe we jsut have different views on that subject.
