Trip to Florida soon

My family of 5 is taking a trip down the east coast to Florida soon (starting in New England). We're driving. I haven't driven this since I was a child on a family vacation.

I'd like to hit some cool places along the way to show the kids, 13, 10 and 3. We all like historical sites. When I google this concept, too many commercial ideas keep coming up.

Anyone have ideas for some great stops along the way down the coast?

iidon't know how far north you're coming from, but i can tell you about some cool stuff in the area where i'm from.

there's a really cool place in my hometown of upper black eddy, PA called ringing rocks park... it's a field of boulders there that ring when you hit them, and there's a big awesome waterfall. it's near the delaware river south of the poconos, north of philadelphia...

there are a ton of historic sites along the river from the watergap to philly. (you can see where washington crossed the delaware in trenton, nj for example) some really cool stuff, and a lot of old buildings that have a sign that say 'so and so ate a sandwich here a hundred years ago'. anyway, it's a beautiful drive, but it's much slower than the big roads.

ooh, and all the museums in washington dc have free admission

have a good trip!

Thanks! Yes, cheesy as it is, I have fond memories of going to South of the Border as a child!

I appreciate these ideas. I'll look some of them up to see if they are enroute.

have you tried road trip usa?

When we were planning a trip from California to Florida, we used roadtripusa.com they tell you the off the beaten path things to see, like bigfoot, world's largest thermometer. The include the larger stuff too, but at least you would have an idea on where to stop.

Good luck! Remember sunscreen for Florida too, it gets a bit toasty down there.
