Would you take off spur of the moment...

and drive 16 hours across the country with a 4 year old, just because you felt like getting out of town?
What if it meant riding with total strangers advertising "rideshare" on craigslist?
Yeah, I know I'm probably totally nuts. But I have a spring break, working for public schools, and I'd love to visit Austin, the city I moved from 3 years ago, since i haven't been back since. I guess you could say I'm itching to get out of town.

Yes and no. I would totally go for the driving part. I've driven all over with Wyatt. Even spur of the moment. I know the feeling when you just need to get outta dodge.
I wouldn't go for the stranger rideshare part with the kiddo. I would just feel too vulnerable.
Come to Florida and visit me!

p.s. Iwas in Austin last summer. neat place.

I think Florida is still happening! My friend who's hooking us up with the tickets, sometimes she has too many irons in the fire. I should just buy them before the rates go up.
You're probably right about the rideshare.

I teach too, and if it wasn't for baseball season, I'd totally do this next week!
It's so much fun to just take off and explore.

Wouldn't do the riding with strangers though, not with a kid along.

I would think about going by myself with strangers, but I wouldn't take my child along!

I am really wanting to take a vacation with ds, but I don't have a car. We need to go to the beach.

We have never been on vacation so I'm a little afraid of traveling alone with him. I was thinking of trying to find another mom with kid(s) to travel with us.

Well, this is not a "vacation", but a couple of years ago ds and I went with my mom to Gulfport, Ms for the weekend. The beach was so nasty (condoms, tampons, dead fish, plastic bags, and tons of jellly fish), but the pool was really nice with a lazy river and sprinklers. I think the hurricane destroyed the hotel we stayed in.

We are in Louisiana so I'm trying to find a place this isn't too far that has a nice beach and pool and is affordable. After I find that then I'll worry about the money and transportation. lol

Shannon, I think that's a good idea, finding another mom to travel with. I love the idea of a mom and child adventure. Too bad we're in Missouri, or we'd go with you.
