How can I keep the kids busy during an 8hr drive?

We have a portable dvd player in the car, but I really dont want them watching 8hrs worth of tv kwim? So what else can i pack or buy to keep them busy? We're driving from PA to VA on sunday so it'll be a long way.
I was thinking crayons or that paper that only writes on that special paper, and other than that i cant think of anything.

The kids are 4 & 6 if that helps.

thanks

Books on tape! We love these. There are chapter books on tape that last longer and you don't have to keep flipping them over. Libraries often have these for check out.

My kids love the auto bingo cards - like this http://www.unclesgames.com/product_i...oducts_id/2269
but we got ours at Cracker Barrel.

I've found those sticker books to be really helpful when we've travelled. The ones where you pull the stickers off , then put them in the right place in the book, then color the completed picture. Zoeys favorites
Roman just liked sticking the stickers everywhere last time.

A roll of tape and paper can keep zoey busy for hours too.

Snacks

"gifts". I individulally gift wrapped some small toys that they got to open every hour or so

Oh man! That's a hard one. Mine are almost 6, 3.5, and 1. I already hear "are we there yet?" They get bored with the movies after a few hours of it. Maybe get a new movie they've never seen. I usually buy a few $1 items in the $1 bins at Target.

Good Luck!
