Has anyone been to/lived in India?

Can you tell me about it?

I've had a late-blooming obsession with India for a few years now and I keep thinking that I want to go--despite the stories of squalor, bad plumbing, bad water, sickness and overcrowding. Not for any spiritual reason, I just love the colors, smells, languages and sounds that I imagine lurk there... I don't do yoga, not into Krishna, don't wear saris. Just want to go for some unknown reason.

I have never been to India, and don't desire to, but I LOVE Indian food! lol! yum! A few years back before I got married and had kids, I met my wonderful friend at the place I worked. She is from India and boy did she ever spoil me at lunch time! She would bring leftovers from dinner the night before....thats how I come to love Indian food. She showed me pictures of her homeland, and pictures of her arranged marriage, how the husband walks the streets (kind of like a parade) to her home and then they get married. Unfortunately the marriage didn't last, he was awful, just awful to her. She is such a sweet person too. She is now happily married to an American man. She talks a lot of her Mom and family there that she hasn't seen in 8 yrs. Anyways, this wasn't a direct answer to your question, but I really like my Indian friend!

One of my friends here and I were jsut talking about this Louise.
She HAS been to India. She did love many things about it but said it took her a while to get use to it -she likened it to a cesspool.

She observed soem religious persecution there though. This lady turned to become a Christian and her hut was burned down by her neighbors or something.

So even though there is beauty, there could be some rough stuff there too. I woudl definately keep asking.

I do remember her saying the area she was at was off the Bay of ??? cant remember but it was off of a bay.

It seems like a fascinating place with amazing people! Love the music too.

Well, as much as I wish I did, I've never been to India, I've been to Nepal and Tibet, to Sri Lanka but never to mainland India.

My husband went several time and spent months at the time. I'm sure if you have any question or concerns he'd be more than happy to correspond with you.

I know quite a bit about the culture and of course spiritual aspect of India, and have several friends from or living there and could find info for you

I'm hoping to make it there in 2006, let see...
