The PO is now offering a "click and ship" option. You can pay for your postage (priority or express) online, print out your label, and *gasp* drop the package in the box (or give it to your carrier, I assume)! And, delivery confirmation is free with this. You can also just print out the priority labels (with free d/c).
Also, if you just want to print priority labels with free d/c, you can use shipper tools: http://www.shippertools.com
I was being charged at my local po when I used the self-printed labels, and would have to argue with them everytime. There is a postal memo that you can refer them to that explains that d/c is free with
the electronic label option. The packages don't get scanned at the originating po, but are scanned on delivery. Also, the label generated by shippertools has a blip about d/c being free with the use of that label.
**There is no fee for delivery confirmation on Priority MAIL with the use of this electronic shipping label.
So if you still go to the post office, get them to read your receipt.
Also you CAN use the dc link for FIRST CLASS and MEDIA MAIL packages (measuring in any spot at least 3/4 inch--use one packing peanut if the item is thinner). Just cut off the PRIORITY MAIL part of the label and attach .13 cents. I have been doing this for months with NO PROBLEMS. I just drop the packages in a blue mail box or hand to my mailman. I never go to the post office anymore unless I need insurance. Even Canadian packages can be dropped off in mailboxes or with the mailman if you have all the correct postage and customs forms on it. Just my .02 cents

Can you still drop off packages over 1 pound? I understood that if it is over 1 pound, postage paid or not you had to give it to a clerk at the p.o.(or other real live person) or it will be returned to sender because of security reasons. I've had one returned to me and I've been a customer/recipient where my package was returned to sender.

my feedback
If you use electronic postage (non-postage stamps)
then you can still use the blue mail boxes. I use pitney bowes clickstamp to print out my postage, so I don't use stamps. If you the package is under 16 oz then you can drop off with the stamps.
My post offices do not require a zero stamp (I asked about it about a month or two ago after reading about it on the ebay shipping boards). It had something to do with airmail packages and an FAA alert. I have not had any thing returned YET and hopefully won't. It must depend on the post office. Some post offices don't even know about FLAT RATE priority envelopes, so who knows what to think! LOL
Now most of what I sell (childrens clothing) is under a lb. But I do have to ship over a lb several times a week, and still leave in my mailbox or put in a blue mailbox....anything to avoid the post office---especially with the upcoming holidays! Ugh! the lines!
I got a copy of the 'A Customer's Guide to Mailing' from my post office & USPS sent me a copy in the mail. It has alot of good/useful info in it...
In this guide, it says that packages that weigh one pound or more must be handed to your letter carrier or taken to a Post Office.
You can print out Media Mail/Parcel Post E-Labels & pay 13cents... You have to d/l the shipping assistant..It's pretty neat. It has a place to figured shipping cost,,,you put in your zip code, zip of destination, sevice type & weight. It will tell you the zone & how much it will cost...Also calculates International rates, how many days it will take for the buyer to receive their package. Here is the addy to d/l it. http://www.uspswebtools.com/Shipping.../SA_splash.htm
