Why my computer's clock loses time? I have to reset it about every other day

I have a compaq, running Windows ME, if that helps...

Sounds like your internal battery is shot. :-)

It's not as bad as it sounds

you should change the battery as soon as possible (or as soon as it is convenient

). I don't remember the size of the battery that is used, but it is the round flat type - like in watches (but bigger). Easy to change if you know how to open the computer; should be explained in the manual.

If you do not change the battery, eventually computer will lose important information that is being used when booting it up. So do change it

Thanks Renata and Barbara for your help! I will visit my friendly computer guy later today...I'm pretty sure I can open it up and replace it myself...it has been driving me a bit batty (and causing me to be late for appointments

I had the SAME problem- are you running XP?? If you are, go into your clock settings and turn OFF the synch option. There is a glitch in XP that causes clocks to run wonky when this option is on. I had SO many problems w/ it and finally called Dell tech support (God bless them)-

Turned that off, reset the clock and it's been right on time ever since-

Thanks for posting this! I was not aware of this problem. Further search found this: http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,76744,00.asp - the synchronization problem was NOT with Windows XP itself, but with microsoft's time servers, and was solved in December. Although Janna is running Windows Me, thus this does not apply to her anyway, I want other users of XP to know that this glitch can no longer be the reason for their incorrect time (as I said, it was fixed in December).
