I use MDI Photosuite to do my scanning. When i scan i always do it at 100% and i'm wondering what the different %s mean, does that mean 100% scans it bigger than say 75?

I'm new to this whole scanning thing but notice that when I save a scan as a JPEG image it gives me a scale (I think from 1-100) for picture quality. The higher the number the more clear the picture is, the more memory it takes for the picture and the longer it takes to load. I think photo editing software is the way to shrink or enlarge an image. At least that's how I made a small picture larger the other day.

My photo editing software is Microsoft Photo Editor and it does *not* come up when I do a scan--I have to find it.

The percentage should be for selecting the output size or ratio of the scan material.

So if you want to make the image bigger thru scanning, increase it beyond 100%. If you want it to be smaller than it's original size, scan below 100%.

......well, at least, that's the way our Microtek software works.

That's the easy answer.. but it still does not explain why 72 dpi 100% size picture is waaay smaller than 300 dpi 100% size picture

and why 72 dpi 4" picture is the same as 144 dpi 2" picture.

Renata, you got me! Good Job. I don't know too much about this whole scanning thing.

My easy answer doesn't even explain why the Earth receives one two billionths of the Sun's electromagnetic energy in the form of short-wave radiation - which, in turn, is re-radiated out at night in the form of Long-wave radiation; otherwise known as the Green House Effect.
