I took these this afternoon - between 2 and 3 o'clock. I was afraid to wait until later because it was supposed to rain and was super cloudy, but I thought I remembered that cloudy was good...so... We don't have too many nice days left before it's too cold or wet for outdoorsy things...
Anyway, here they are. I do have a question though- if a part of her face is blown out how do I adjust it and then blend it in so you can tell that I worked on that section? help!

They are so cute! Your son looks like your dh and your daughter looks a lot like you.
thanks. Actually my ds looks a lot like my brother, but blond, and my dd looks a lot like dh's family; however, I'm seeing some resemblance now with my family.
For her face - if it's truly blown, there's not much you can do to fix it that will look natural. And looking at these, I think it is. Best case scenario is take your eye dropper, pick up the color that's right next to the blown area, and use the paintbrush at a lower (40ish %) opacity to paint over the blown areas. You may have to keep resampling your color to make it look semi-natural.
My only other CC is to try to get them a bit farther away from the "background". Yes, the leaves are pretty, but you want the focus to be on them, not the leaves, or the waterfall. Use your longest focal length (no more than 105mm though) on about F3 if you can go that low. You'll get good background blur (have to bring them a couple feet away though) and still a decent enough depth of field to keep them in focus. The the ones of both, up it to F4.
Since it was cloudy, you could have brought a white pillowcase or piece of poster board to put on the ground in front of them to bring more light into their eyes and on their faces. A pseudo reflector if you will.

Thank you for the suggestions!!! I'm wishing I had a dSLR - my camera is okay, but I can't argue with it and win - so, I can set the focal length to F3 or sometimes even f2.8, but it won't let me adjust the shutter speed to where I want without blowing out the picture - even if I change the ISO, it's often not enough to make the difference. That being said, I'm a total novice and am still learning my way around the camera. Sometimes my camera won't let me set a lower focal point. I'm also not happy with how pictures come out when set on automatic...I actually like the less expensive camera for that.
Thanks for suggesting the opacity of the paintbrush; I'll have to try that. I'm in love currently with the healing brush - what fun!
Are the colors true on a calibrated monitor?thanks!

Where did your dd get her beautiful hair? I've always wondered if that's what your hair is like and how could it possibly fit under a wig, lol. Sorry to hijack, I just realized this is in the photography forum.
