Question What photo software do you recommend?

I have Irfanview and Picasa - but maybe am not using them to their potential. Is there something better? What should I be looking for in photo software? and how do you use it?
TIA!

Photoshop, if you don't want to spend the $$$ on photoshop, than Adobe Photo Elements is useful.

Another vote for Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. It depends on where you're going. Elements' latest version is pretty powerful and if I were a hobbiest, it'd be my choice.

Thanks for asking Tivka!
Michele (and others) what version of photoshop do you use?
When I check out available versions I see CS3, Lightroom, Elements and Premier Elements. I am assuming you pro's use CS3? What about CS2?Thoughts on each?

Sorry for the hi-jack

I have photoshop CS but someday (always someday, huh) will upgrade.

I've used Elements 4, Gimp, and Picassa in the past.

That's what I was leaning towards Julie...how's the learning curve? Easy to pick up on?
Do you by chance run on Windows Vista? I've read Lightroom has problems in the past on Vista. Hoping they are worked out by now.

i am pretty sure it has to do with the manner in which we edit. i haven't ever observed anyone else edit pictures...but i think it's just what works with my brain. i find lightroom sooo much faster than photoshop personally. i use both when i'm editing a session.
