I GOT IT!

I took a bunch of pics tonight of nothing at all interesting, but they were all in focus and more or less good using just the manual settings!!! yea!

I'm going to practice with the kids tomorrow

Thank you for this. It is a great reminder. I took tons of photography in college but forgot it all and now I have to remember it all and use a digital!

that was awesome! why didn't i read this sooner? Gabby's sig shot was taken I think at 2. I should have shot at 4.5 or higher to get more focus.

but you did it perfectly, Angela - her eyes are in focus and the rest is softened

No errors there at all

oh - and to update, I found RAW and shot in it exclusively the last month. I'm in love. I'm finally getting rid of that noise that was troubling me so much.

for a single subject, shot in natural light, i would not shoot above 3ish. you did fine!

...and can I say, I am really impressed at how nice your whites look. So many whites are blown, particularly when people are just starting out. You did great!

that is not straight out of camera though, here it is and it's not sharpened for web. I just wish it were more crisp

You're really doing quite nicely
