Photographers(Brandy and others)...need digital camera recommendations...

I would like to buy a great new digital camera. I now have a 4mp with a 10x zoom (I love the zoom). I love to scrapbook and *need* a digital camera that gives me amazing clarity.

What do you all recommend??

Added you Brandy because I love love love your pictures of your kids!!!

I'm not sure what your budget is, but if you can afford it, go with a digital SLR! I have a Nikon D70 that I absolutely love. I have a Tamron 28-70/f2.8 lens that never comes off.

Here are some recent shots...

I have the Nikon D70 too. I LOVE it. ALthough I really need to figure out all of the manual settings (there is so much to remember). It has auto settings and that is what I have been using and the pictures are amazing. VERY user friendly and the best investment/present dh ever did!
macspeno~ Those pics are beautiful. Did you use the auto settings???

There is a definitely a learning curve for the D70, but once you get the hang of it, the pictures can be really nice. I prefer to set my exposure manually, but I do use autofocus as I don't care for the manual focus controls.

When you are using a digital SLR, for each shot you need to keep in mind: which lens is on the camera, what your ISO setting is (higher lets more light in but adds graininess to the image), what your aperture is (lower number lets more light in but has a narrower depth of field), shutter speed (faster = no motion blur, but lets less light in), white balance (the lighting you are in makes a difference as to how colors are rendered). That's in addition to your focus, composition, light, and subject matter! And of course the camera settings you have to set up before you use it, such as focus mode, pixel size, etc. It definitely takes a level of dedication to be able to understand all this and manage it, but although it sounds quite complicated, after you become used to it, you can have amazing control over your pictures.

If you are not used to a SLR (digital or otherwise) be prepared for some frustration in the beginning and get ready for lots of practice!!! As a shutterbug, it's all worth it to me and I love every minute of taking pictures, even when things aren't working exactly as I'd like them to.

Also, digital SLR shots look better with some post-processing so you will want to become friends with Adobe Photo Elements or something similar. It's an added expense to take into account.

We just got a Canon EOS 20D. I am slowly learning how to use it aside from the auto settings, but the things my BIL did with that camera was amazing. He is a photographer and got it for us "used" from another photographer friend-good thing because new they are very pricey. Before this opportunity came along we were looking at the Canon Digital Rebel (which my sister owns and I have used). There is a lot of versatility in that camera, but it is also easy as pie to use on auto for a beginner and still get great shots. My sister also does a lot of scrapbooking and she has used photoshop to put together some beautiful pages. I am just starting out on my digital camera journey, but I love the crisp, clear quality of the pictures I have taken, I am so glad to have this camera!
***My sig pic was NOT taken with my new camera
