anyone here have almost no plastic in their house?
i spent time at a friend's house the other day who truly does not have any plastic in her house. i'm sure there's *something,* but close to nothing. the house is just so very wonderful and natural every where you look. it's hard to explain. it was just inspiring. i don't think i should waste and spend money and just throw everything out now that i was with my friend, but it was just a feeling that i love being there and was inspiring.
so here's what i see that is plastic at my house
coffee pot
toaster
a few snack bowls
a couple of sippy cups
doctor kit
riding toy
a few little people
legos
playmobil
shower curtain liner
potty seat for toilet
toilet brush and holder
potty chair
step stool
games/pieces
clothes basket
trash cans
baby monitor
ziploc bags (used sparingly, but still)
a few plastic animals still (most wooden)
play dishes
a few kid spoons
storage bins
i'm betting there's more than i can think of/see out right now. how is it not that much, but seems like lots? or is that lots...i don't know.
but anyway...have any ideas for making that list smaller?

yes...the computer and TV and game systems do not help!
i have a few toys on our shelves in plastic containers
looking around the bathroom...lots of products ALL in plastic...make up, lotions, body washes, bubble baths, contact lens stuff...just everywhere!
i know nobody cares, but it is just amusing me at this point...
stove
microwave
kid chair
doll stroller
hair dryer
kid keyboard
inflatable sword
ok...it really is everywhere.
yes everywhere....i have tried to limit our plastics but it is very hard and $$$$. The kitchen is one area I would like to limit it in but storing leftovers can be a challenge without some plastic to put it in as the glass containers (still having plastic lids) never seem to be the right size. And my girls LOOOOOVVVVVEEEEE there little people and those toys are just plastic beasts everywhere I turn.

I wish I had none!!! I have done good in the kitchen and use jars for most storage but we do still have plastic. And I have had bad luck in wooen toys, the stuff i buy breaks fast and the plastic lasts longer.
I'd love to have none, but my list looks similar to yours. I do make sure whatever I buy is the safe nonreactive kind. I actually found freezer containers that are plastic that I really love - they are an old-school design, stack together, are normal quantities - perfect for freezing broth or holding leftovers.

We have 15 and 6 gallon tubs full of legos that will never be leaving our home.
We do have some plastic but in the kitchen it is limited to rubber spatula handles, and a couple of spatulas that I adore. I have some tupperware that I use sparingly. The only plastic I use on a regular basis in the kichen is the produce tupperware containers with the vent systems since they do truly keep our produce fresh much longer than without it.
I have gotten to the point that I don't stress about it to much. I have removed what we can and accept the things I can't remove. My kiddos adore their legos, star wars toys, etc... and I am not going to get rid of my sewing equipment so plastic will always be in our home. However, for drinking, cooking, etc... we use all glass. My youngest has never even had a sippy cup other than when she is at grandmas house. I use mason jars or the glass jars with the rubbery type lids for fridge storage and all my mixing bowls are either stainless or vintage pyrex.
We have a lot, and I'm OK with that. However, when I get something new, if I have a choice I go with no plastic.
right. Same here. Do better next time.
I'm about to "purge" the dreaded basement shelf. I'm thinking about getting tin garbage cans instead of plastic totes. Their utility value is far better than a plastic tote so the added expense would certainly be worth it. I'd miss the see-through value but a list of contents taped to the outside would work.
I must have been giving this whole idea more thought than i realized because yesterday I went to the store for plastic totes and walked away empty-handed. Then I woke up thinking about my plastic inventory in the whole house. lol.
