chicken pox in pdx

Hi there,

Here goes my first post in Amity!

My 3 year old is in day 2 of the chicken pox. If any parent would like to bring their child over to expose them, please PM me. I heard it's most contagious a few days before and after the first pox appear.

Thanks

welcome to amitys I see you've been here for awhile, but since you haven't been posting.. welcome all the same! Stick around and post more often!

I'm a bit north of you, and we had the pox earlier this year - but I know there's always people looking for it

Thanks for the welcome Korwynne!

I want to ask you something... I have a 3 month old and I'm wondering what should be my attitude towards her getting the pox right now. Do you think it's okay if she gets the pox, after all I'm b'feeding, so hopefully it won't be too strong a case of it. Or do you think it's not a good thing for one so young?

The other thing is, I've heard that in babies, the pox can be mild, and if the babes under 6 months and catch it, it might not be enough to get "full immunity". Is this right do you think?

Thanks so much.

Leila didn't get it when she was exposed around her first birthday and the ped attributed it to nursing.

I don't think it'd necessarily be bad if she got it, but I don't think you could count on immunity either.

How funny, I posted on CL looking for an active case just yesterday! In Portland no less!

We are headed out of town tomorrow though, so I'm not sure if it would still be considered contagious or not. What do you think? Does the pox virus stay live on say, a lollipop or something like that?

Thanks Korwynne for your reply.

How long does the pox virus stay live? I've heard of contaminated lollipops being mailed out to people, but I have no idea. Also, I've been reading of other people's experiences. Like some people have hosted chicken pox parties when they thought their kids were highly contagious and no one has contracted it. And sometimes kids catch it when it's unlikely in that the other kid is assumed not to be contagious anymore. So I'm not sure. If you're still interested though and your schedule is tight, I could arrange something quick! The other thing is that a sweet lady came over a couple of days ago with her 2 year old. Perhaps if he comes down with it in two weeks or so, you could contact her 'cause she says she's open for her details to be given to others.

Long live Chicken Pox Parties!!

I posted in another thread about my daughter (5) getting the chicken pox. I was worried about my 6 month old daughter getting it. My pediatrician said she would prefer to wait until fifteen months but not to worry that everything should be just fine.
There was no real way for me to keep my two kids apart, so i am just planning on lots of breastfeeding time if she does get it. =)

Good luck!!

My oldest son had chicken pox at 4 mos when I was breastfeeding and then got them again at 2 1/2. Both were full blown cases too.

Hey mamas - can anyone tell me about this? I am assuming that exposing a child to chicken pox works like a vax?

Thanks!

Tara
