Over at sewingmamas some of us have started making these. It is such a great idea. I know it isn't much money to buy a cloth bag but it takes a nice push to get someone into using them. This is the perfect way to introduce people to the whys and wonderfulness of cloth shopping bags.
I decided to start a local morsbag 'pod' because I have been having so much fun making them and they have been so well received. So I started a local pod in hopes we could get group sewing days set up and see if we could hammer out a big bunch. Well so far so good - I have had a couple people contact me who are interested and I just put the sign up in the local organic food store a couple days ago. That is really good considering how teeny our village is. And how cool is it that not only will I be helping the environment but also connecting with other sewing folks in the area! I *knew* there had to be a way to smoke them out of their hidey holes!
So if you have a sewing machine (or know someone who does - you could cut and iron while they sew. You don't have to be a master seamstress by any means!) then you can start a pod of your own!
I will download and see what it is all about. We have days here at the OP shops where you can stuff all you can find into a shopping bag and pay $2...good way to get fabric for bags.

I've had my own fabric bags for a long time. They're quite obnoxious (print wise) and when I dropped one in the parking lot, 3 people told me they saw my lost bag. One actually took the time to turn it into the svc counter. lol.
Anyway. I already intend to give fabric grocery bags to everyone for christmas....but help me out with this pod thing. I don't think I'm quite getting that part of this.

The pods are just groups of people in an area or organization who get together to either make bags as a group (that is what we are doing here) or to keep motivating others to keep up with their bag making. The pod leader reports the number of bags made by the pod to the morsbag site and they can then say how many bags have been given away all over the world.
Ah. another reason to wish I had a sewing machine.
got scissors? got an iron? Know anyone with a sewing machine? One benefit of doing the pod bag making is that even those without machines can participate. Someone cuts, someone irons (there is fair amount of pressing in the pattern to keep the sewing to a minimum) and someone sews. Everyone can do this!
I have a great bumper sticker that says "Paper bags blow". I'm not sure who gave it to me, but I love it! Sadly, I don't always practice what I preach. This inspired me to use up those scraps of fabric I have cluttering up the office and stop having to get more and more plastic bags. Thanks!

True, I'll have to remember this idea the next time my friends do a craft day.
