earth-bermed houses

I keep seeing them around here. I think it's a *movement*. We're up to 5 I've spotted within 10 miles of my house.

Anyone want to post favorite links about earth bermed/ underground houses? If we settle here for the long term, I'm going to be knocking on 5 doors, asking if I can look around and who built those houses.

Wait - how do I not know the one on Doc B? I saw one on McClure (I think) today. Then there's the one next to Wade Valley - is that the one you're thinking of on Castleberry? And the one on Red Bank. And the one on Pisgah. And I swear I'm forgetting one more.... It's wild.

And the diversity of the styles is bordering on hilarious. There's the one that looks like a bunker. And the one that looks like they backed a standard '70's brick ranch into a hillside. And then that gorgeous one that you have to look at 3 times to realize that it's not 2-dimensional, it's earth-bermed. The one I saw today was another double-take - we had to back up to look a second time to see if I was imagining it.

the one on doc B faces away from the road. from the road you see the roof...that looks like it is sitting on the grass, then you realize the earth slopes down in the back, which i guess would be the front of that house...

it's near the entrance to lake astoria.
