Kids music: What are you listening to?

Okay, so I've switched from the classical station all day, to listening to CD's from the library, and their VBS Cds. The VBS Cd this year is really good.

Joe McDermott, who actually lives in town (!) has a really good CD- I am listening to the music, and my kids to the lyrics, - it's rockabilly, with different sounds and textures.

This new one, which shall remain nameless, is oatmeal. lumpy, cold, bland oatmeal. Pteh.

So, obviously, it's a lottery.

What am I missing? What's good? What do you like? What do your kids like?

We are all over Dan Zanes ~ we even took the kids to see him in concert. Enjoyable for the whole family to listen to, to dance to, to sing along with, and DH has even learned to play a lot of the songs on his uke and guitar.

dan zanes

If you have to choose just one I would go with House Party, although we love the others too.

Dan Zanes is the only "kid" music we'll listen too; they can listen to Raffi in their room. But DZ is really family music.

not real new but I always recommend -
They Might be giants - here come the abc's, and NO

and for awhile I was crazy about
Sara Hickman - Toddler

and anything by Sweet Honey in the Rock

but these days we basically listen to adult music that has kid appeal - M likes girl groups or girl rock singers.

Check out the website (sm)all ages for great kids music recs.

We love Uncle Rock here...he is a local guy, but I think everyone should know about him. My kids really dig him and mom likes his music too!!!! If you go to the links you can hear some of the songs....I think the myspace page has several videos. Watch the "Picnic in the Graveyard" video if you get a chance. Really cool! And you can order CD's online too!
