So tell me how to get off Coffee....

I need to do it cold turkey. I have in the past(when I was preggo, couldn't handle the caffine anymore) and quit for years. Then when Starbucks moved into my Target last year, I have been hooked again. Now I am mad and want them out! I am such a weakling. Always looking for those small comforts. I hear about this Emergen-C. Never tried it. You can have it hot? Is the lite any good? Any other goodies that I can use to get off the habit? Thanks Mama's!

I wouldn't use emergenc to replace coffee because it is nothing like it. It is more like a soda water. Have you tried other hot beverages like teas? Or even coffee alternatives like postum?

Hey. Yeah,I have tried teas. Decaffinated Green Tea and Celestial Seasonings stuff. I have heard Traditional Medicinals are good...I'll look into Postum. Never heard of it. Thanks! Just trying to think of something healthy that I haven't tried yet to get hooked on.

LOL My family is LDS so I grew up with Postum. There are other brands tho if you check out a health food store/co-op. I want to say Perro? LOL But that is dog in spanish isn't it? Anyhow, they are pretty good subsitutes. Green tea doesn't do it for me but chai with milk and black tea with milk does.

I'm about to start bailing on coffee, too (I already do decaf, but would rather quit altogether), and I am switching to chai, made with milk, to satisfy my craving for hot, sweet, thick and yummy.

Oh, and Caro is the other coffee sub ^^^^ she's trying to think of, lol!

Oh, I was going to mention, about Emergen-C...it's really good for a pickmeup in the middle of the day, when you are flagging, so that may be where you got the idea of replacing the energy boost from coffee with the Emergen-C. It will give you a good boost of energy, but it won't help with the caffeine withdrawls, so it's not exactly a straight sub. It would be a good thing to reach for when you go for your usual coffee, though, when you are after a little boost. I have heard you can drink it hot, too, but I have never tried it.

Cool, thanks! I know I read it somewhere a long time ago about Emergen-C for quitting coffee. The energy boost must be why.

Yeah, that is true. I guess I was thinking about it more from how I am about coffee. I just love it. I love the cup, and the warmth, and the ritual of it. But if you are physically dependent on it, then emergenc would probably be a good sub.

Me too.

I've actually read that a cup a day actually has some health bennies. Let me go look for that...

That wasn't so hard...there were zillions of hits for 'health beNefits of coffee'. Could be funded by Columbia coffee bean growers for all i know, but here's just one of many.
