Oh heck yea! That is the only step that will create real change in the way the country spends their money. I am too far out of the system to make a difference in it. If you vote with your money (via actually SPENDING money) then you will be a powerful force in the world of marketing and comsumerism. I am proud of my ability to not buy and to make my own, to get used and make things last, but at the same time I never feel like I am making much of a difference in the world of marketing because I am removed from the system of purchase. I sometimes wish I voted with my money a little more, but so far, I can't even get Fred Meyer rewards with the amount that I spend. lol!

Now my dh however? If I counted all of the things I talked him out of buying in the last year he may well be just another sheep floating in the stream of comsumerism. lol... At least he has me. Yesterday I called a friend who just upgraded there computer, and we got a entire upgrade (because I won't let him get the best and newest) for $60 used. He was thrilled and I still put no money into the system. Score on both sides!

$60 dollars used for a whole upgrade? Sheez, we were pleased with ourselves the other day when we got a *video card* for $80 used, lol! (It was a $300 card, and we weren't looking forward to having to buy it retail) Dh happened to mention online to a friend we were buying one, and he happened to have one sitting there he didn't want! Woohoo! lol

Isn't that awesome!?! I was SO happy about it! This paticular friend has a water cooled this, and a air vented that, and the video card that tops his literally came out last week. lol... so he spends MONEY on his computers. When we talked to him he had given his handmedowns to his wife, and her 'handmedowns were going where???' I asked. He gave us a video card, (better than ours) 512 of RAM (better than ours) a DVD ROM (We never had one) a Sound card (MUCH better than ours) and the Windows upgrade for $60! Don was so thrilled I think he said thank you like 10 times. lol... We will need another stick of RAM in the next 6 months just to make everything go smoothly, but I was thinking "!WOW! Even if we spent the $75 on the RAM AND the $60 on the upgrade we are doing great!" lol... If we put anything else into this old box we would have to get a new case.

It is VERY nice to know Microsoft Geeks sometimes. They are TTC at this moment as well, so I get to return the favor by passing down baby stuff. How cool is that? (Which I also have bought NOTHING for so far, but have wonderful stuff that I have gotten for free.) That is true community I swear...

ETA a $300 card for $80 is an awesome deal! WOW!

Anti-consumerist
You scored 37 consumer index!

shoes are my vice i have about 18-20 pairs. But in my defense-- very few clothes---which i will cut up and make kids clothes, doll clothes, or napkins out of once i'm done with them.

And HTH are books in the same category as media???? I mean if you don't buy books you either have to read online or pay all those fines and spend all that gas going back and forth to the library. LOL

You scored 73 consumer index!
I have a $500 shirt I would like to sell you. It's very chic! It's pre-worn and pre-ripped! You're too far gone. It's no use. We're happy that you spend all your cash and we'll tax the **** out of you and sell you crap for unbelieveable prices. Unfortunately, you aren't really Paris Hilton. Eventually, you'll find yourself in tremendous debt and looking for some sugar-daddy or sugar-momma to take care of you until your beauty fades. Then, maybe you'll figure out that your bobbles and gadgets don't mean **** unless you can pawn them for food and rent money.
