Speaking of homemade... What other products do you like to make?

After talking about making my own tinctures I was wondering what else I could make here at home on my own from all natural ingredients.

Here is a list of what I would like to make

Herbal tinctures

Soaps:

Body soap

Laundry soap

Dish washing soap

all kinds really

Cleaning products

Shampoos

Conditioners

I think I could go on and on

So what homemade products do you all make and where do you get your info?

Here is an awesome link I found

I make my own soap. I don't remember where I got the recipe and Dh "decluttered" my copy so I'm crossing my fingers for the next time I need to whip up a batch. Otherwise I clean with baking soda and vinegar a lot and use vinegar in the wash. A lot of things I just don't use. And a lot of stuff seems to last me forever.
The other thing I do is to dye clothes that would otherwise end up in the rag bin. Oh, and I make rags to cut down on Dh's paper towel habit.

Clothes, wash rags, bath mits, toys, blankets... even some books etc...

Those are my types of homemade stuff. I do make some cleaning products. I by WAHM soaps, and I get Aveda shampoo and conditioners, Seventh Gen dish detg, etc... I have never had trouble trading for stuff. I like to use tinctures, but not often. I am a sort of let your body do its own work person. So they feel invasive to me, even if they work. I do like EO's.

Speaking of trading... Kristarae I need to trade with you for bath fizzies... The kids are out and asking.

I handed my dh some lip balm yesterday, and said I made it myself! He said, Dang, you are becoming a hippy! I just mixed some shea butter and avocado oil, it works great! I made the diaper wiping solution that I got from here I think, with lavendar oil, baby soap, water and I used safflower oil instead of olive. I tried mixing vinegar, water and lemon oil for cleaning, but I'm not liking it too much, and dh is a bleach freak that I'm trying to convert, so none of the natural stuff smells right to him. I tried Ecover, it's not so great either. Does seventh generation work well? I want to make everything now, but I have to pace myself. I made a little recipe card box with all my baby/home recipes so I can grab them for easy reference.

What your dh said is funny. I like to make my own lip glosses they are easy and fun to make. I use the seventh generation lavender dish liquid soap to wash dishes and to make an all purpose bathroom cleaner that works great.

Here is the recipe in case you are interested

32 oz spray bottle
1 inch sev gen lavender dish liquid
12-20 drops GSE
water

add about an inch of sev gen lavender dish liquid to the bottle, then add the drops and fill to the top with water, I just put the lid on and give it a gentle shake.

It works awesome and smells great.

I think Kristarae shared a link the other day that talked about vinegar and hydrogen peroxide being just as effective as bleach anyone have the link?

Hmmmmm, let's see. I've made the following:

diapers, covers, liners, wipes
"butt spray" (baby butt cleaner)
slippers
purses
Ninja costume (little guy)
kilts (for little guys, no less!)
pregnancy coat and bridesmaid's dress
nursing bridesmaid's dress
kitty collars
hemp bracelets and necklaces
fabric embroidered growth chart
fabric hot/cold therapy packs
dog super-hero cape (super cute!)
baby sling

all my cleaners (see Care2's website for all the recipes you could possibly need: http://www.care2.com/healthyliving/)
  • lip balm
  • bathroom cleaner
  • oven cleaner (just baking soda and water)
  • aromatherapy
  • deodorant (spray)
  • facial toner and moisturizer
  • wood floor cleaner (this is fantastic!)
  • all-purpose cleaner
  • hand salve

wow! I think that's enough for the list, for now!

Ah to be fully self sustainable. Or at least in a community that is. I can only dream. Oh well.
But I have tried to be a little self supportive and defiantly supportive of small business, especially fair trade/organic/homemade/environmentally supportive vain of business.

Anyway here is my list
Toys - lots of toys
clothes
scarves - hats - mittens
costumes
jackets
shampoo
cleaning products
bedding and beds
yarn
jam - marmalade
balls
paper - books
lanterns
candles
baskets
dolls

that’s all I can think of right now.
Blessings!

Oh, we have a car camper van (VW) and we can sleep in it and often change in it while out at the hotspring or someting. We needed cutains. It helps with the sun too sometimes.

Maybe I should be the "tired birth attendant." lol

we are really into making our own presents for people. That has been my new year resolution. Instead of spending lots of money. We like to make things that remind us of that person. while we work on there gifts we like to talk about that person and why they are so special to us
Art
picture frame form whatever we find
music
cleaning products
food( candied nuts, salsa's etc.)
a card

Wow! I had almost forgotten, but this thread reminded me. I discovered amitymama when I was searching for a good recipe for diaper wipe solution!
Lets see, what do I make myself?
Lip balm
Hand cream
Insect repellant
Various herbal medicines- I generally prefer to use remedies I can make myself over store-bought ones
Yarn
clothing

I'm sure there are more, but that's all I can think of at the moment.

That is neat I started another thread about homemade remedies. I recently started to make my own. Do you use a book or websites to gather your info for making them?

Thanks for all the replies everyone, it is really interesting to see what all of you make and have made. There are some things I never thought to make myself.
