I've tried before. I've done well for the most part, at times. Fell off the "no/very little sugar" wagon a few weeks ago. Big time. So much so, I got a yeast infection for the first time in 9 years (the sugar and my immune system was probably low while getting over a cold). I went CRAZY with my sugar cravings. I bought food and ate it, stuff I hadn't eaten in a longgg time, or bought in a longg time. I had pop tarts, and oreos, and ice cream every day, and pudding, and saltines (which ok, aren't sugar, but the dreaded white flour). And not just one oreo. No, I'd eat like 6 as a snack. We'd done well for so long, and then it was like my body went beserk. Now I feel tired all the time. Hungry. Sleepy. Yucky. And dh, seeing me eating all that, just joined right in, though he doesn't feel it "calling him" like I do! To him, it's just food. To me, it was like I was an animal, hunting for the sugar. I sound like a nut!
Tomorrow, we're going cold turkey, off sugar (which includes soda, which I have also started drinking more after only having like once a month). I'm climbing back on my wagon and tying myself down. I have to, I feel like a crazy person right now. Any tips, ideas, anything. I want this to work this time! It has to! I have to get off it!
(is it bad that I'd like to go finish the pack of oreos right now, before tomorrow starts?! I've got less than an hour til midnight, lol)

I am doing the same thing
My sugar intake is actually pretty minimal but due to having PCOS I need to be rid of it completely. The best advice I can give you is to make your home a fail proof environment. Get rid of everything. Make the change a whole family change. This type of eating will be of benefit to your whole family.
GOod luck

Joy to the World...
the Lord has come!
Today I will cherish myself, love myself, nurture myself, and take one more step towards achieving my goals!
So far so good, but I haven't even eaten anything yet, lol. I want oatmeal, but I normally put brown sugar on it. And I suppose that's sugar, eh. lol. I could have strawberries, but I normally sprinkle them with sugar...hmmm...
I find that if I put raisins or fruit in my oatmeal and chopped nuts on top I don't really need the sugar. And I am happy with stevia in my yogurt and tea.
Try sparkling water with lime or one of those strawberries instead of the soda.
I think that it's also important to avoid the dreaded white flour and limit refined carbs.
I know all about what I should be doing. lol
I'm not going to use splenda or stevia or anything. I'd just like to completely get myself off the taste of sugar.
I didn't think of doing honey in the oatmeal, that would've been good!
I ended up having peach slices & toast w/butter (smart balance) and ice water with a lemon wedge for breakfast. Lunch was whole wheat pasta with a cream sauce of cream of mushroom soup (Amy's) mixed with cream cheese and dry italian seasoning.
Snack right now is granola w/cow milk (which I bought only so I could eat granola, I can't stomach rice milk, though the kids like it, ooh I have almond milk I should try that in the granola!)
For dinner, I'm supposed to make a vegetarian vegetable alphabet soup but I really, really don't want to cook, so I may just do froze Amy's burritos that we got at Costco today. I'm only drinking water with lemon/lime wedges today, I usually drink 1-2 glasses of juice per meal! And I'd allow myself 1 soda per day. I'm going to go cold turkey on that too.
So far so good. I just find myself having to be really, really aware of what I'm eating. I hope I can do this this time!

:)
For oatmeal I add a cut up apple and raisins to the water before it boils. This helps soften them up a bit and brings out the natural sweetness in them.
Though I love honey I stay away from it because it is very high glycemic and using it won't help you get over the sugar withdrawls.
I can sure sympathize with you. I'm new to the forum and just saw your post. A few things have worked wonderful for me. First, I'm NOT a vegetarian, so I have to have meat. If I don't get enough meat protein and natural fats (like from the meat, and use real butter), I crave sweets. As long as I get enough protein and fat in my diet, I could go forever without any sweets. I also take Chromium Picolinate 200 mcg every morning. It is very helpful with carbohydrate metabolism. I found that I have to use a good brand --- Kal, Schiff or Twin Labs have all worked for me. Many others have not. If I do eat any sweets, even a little honey, I'll sometimes take an extra chromium picolinate. It helps metabolize the sugars so you don't get that sugar high, then the low that makes you feel so terrible and crave more. Hope that helps.
