I have had some in the past. I mixed with ground meat to make the meat go farther. The TVP was only about $1.25/lb and ground meat then was only about $2/lb. NOw it is much higher. But, because of the association with soy and thyroid issues and premature puberty in girls, we are avoiding it. If you find you like the TVP, let me know and I can send you some FFS. What I have is unflavored.

I have used it. It can be just the ticket for certain things. But, soy is one of the most pesticide-laden and GMO'd 'food' out there. I would only buy organic.
One of the reasons I don't buy Morning Star anything is because they do not use organic soy. Not even all Boca products are organic.
I could choke it down if I had to as in nothing else to eat and I was starving, but no matter how hard I tried to dress it up, it just doesn't taste good to me. I've experiments with it even tried using 1/2 meat and 1/2 tvp. but still doens't do it for me.

do you all use organic meat? It seems so expensive. I'm just trying to lessen our overall intake of meat, I've used some TVP that was really good, but it was preseasoned and tasted a lot like meat, (to me it did, my dh could only stomach it twice and then said,"uh...not so much." ) I can't remember the name Seven something. I've been interested in finding a club to buy the more expensive organic stuff but there's not one in my area (that I've found).
I bought TVP for the first time last week and really liked it. I ground it up a little bit finer and then soaked it and made veggie burgers. they were good but a little rich with the buns we were using. I would make it with pita bread.
next I made shepards pie, that was good too but probably not make it again. I've been a veg for almost 20 years and Raynbow has been veg her whole life so meat imitations aren't really neccessary for us.
I got the recipes from a book called Vegetarian Comfort Foods

I use TVP on occassion. I have a whole cookbook called the TVP cookbook!
Some things are great- I find in asian dishes it works well. Other things are a flop.
But it is very nutritious, and I think as long as I don't overload on soy (we hardly ever have any) then its OK. I try to buy organic, but if they only have non, then thats what I get. I did find a mailorder source: http://www.healthy-eating.com
