not a big fan of American Girl dolls...alternative?

My MIL has an American Girl baby doll waiting for my little girl for christmas. The doll comes with a suitcase of stuff. I've never liked realistic looking baby dolls, to me they look so real it's scary...if I can come up with an alternative maybe she'll take back the American Girl Baby and get what I suggest...any suggestions? Any recommendations for Waldorf dolls or something else?

we have a fabulous custom waldorf doll from Joy's Waldof Dolls. I had 2 mama's here make some matching clothes for my DD & her doll. I can tell that it's going to be very well loved. "Willow" goes with us everywhere!

Plus since she is 16", she should fit into the AG clothes if DD decides she wants those too.

I checked out those sites, Thanks. And I really like those dolls but as expensive as AG stuff is the waldorf dolls I like still cost more. I had no idea Waldorf dolls cost so much! But I understand why. I'll have to think of something else...or I'll be getting an AG baby with a suitcase of accessories!

If you end up w the AG, don't worry, she may not even like it. My dd loves baby dolls and I don't personally have any issues with them (other than the plastic). I bought her a cabbage patch, she doesn't like it nearly as much as the babies. Why? Too maturish of a doll vs the baby like baby dolls???
www.naturalfamilyboutique.com just started carrying some Waldorf dolls, yes expensive.

Look under Dolls, they even have dolls that are 'correct' below the diaper -- all cloth. I'd love to get a few of these, but my dd at age 18 mo already has 5 big doll babies and 5 hand held size dollies.
Under customer purchasing go to Kids and Grandkids sight -- they even have the correct dolls with mini-potties (ec sz potties).

fairywooldolls.com has some gorgeous ones too.. I won't ever order from Joy due to some issues involving threats and intimidation attempts toward other doll makers.

Bitty babies are really wonderful baby dolls, they have a soft body and plastic, arms, legs and face and are only 15" long. I don't think they are all that real looking and are easy for most kids to tote around. Also, you can always find stuff to fit them really inexpensive on eBay. AG is a quality doll, I own several, so I am a bit biased.
