What are your cloth wipes made with?

I asked my oldest dd if she would be willing to use cloth tp if I did, and she said yes. Since she's great at serging, I figure I can cut out a bunch of wipes and let her at it. What works best? Flannel? Diaper gauze? Wovens? Something thick or thin?

The ones we use are all double sided flannel. They work great for us, wet OR dry.

mine are flannel, also. two layers. i used prints on one side and white on the other. not for any reason i can remember, lol. just seemed like the thing to do.

i've been using the same ones since a'hnia was an infant. i've been thinking it's time to make some new ones, lol. none of them are soft and fuzzy anymore and a few are sprouting holes.

i'm pretty impressed with myself when i consider how much paper i've saved, even considering i'm the only one who uses them. richard thinks it's a good idea, ecologically, but he's not willing to go there, lol.

My favorite ones are flannel on one side and a really lightweight cotton sherpa on the other. I only have a few as they were gifted. All my others are one side terry one side flannel, and the terry can be awful scratchy IMO.

we use mostly 4 layers of flannel. the outside layers are the "pretty" flannel that my DD picked and the inners are what ever flannel was in the cheep section of the fabric store.

We also have some from a friend that are 3 flannel and 1 terry that DD likes when more umm, cleaning, is needed. We have just a few that have outter layers of velour which are so luxurious.

I've got some that are a few layers of flannel, and then velour/flannel. I love the velour ones, the flannel are super soft too though! I also have a bunch of two layers of velour ones my Mom made me (I got her to switch to all cloth wipes, and then she sewed up a TON of them so gave me about 15!!)

Ok, so next question: how many do you keep on hand? And what's your routine? How do you keep them/dispose of them? How do you wash them? (I obviously know how to wash cloth diapers, so I'm assuming the same way?)

I have such a mish-mash of fabrics it's unreal. Some are terry/flannel, fleece/flannel, fleece/terry, flannel/flannel, flannel/velour. I love the ones with fleece or velour because it's so soft, but they don't seem to dry off well (meaning ya wipe but don't feel dry). But they work GREAT when you get them wet to clean up a messy job. I have three girls and my two oldest enjoy using cloth in the bathroom. My hubby thinks the idea is insane and won't allow it in our bathroom. So at least I have one bathroom!

I leave a little trash can with flip lid in the bathroom. It has baking soda on the bottom that when I dump the wipes in the wash when I wash the dirty dipes, I just run hot water into the trash can and throw that water in the washer. So I just wash them with the dipes.

I wouldn't be able to tell you how many I have in the bathroom because not only are they used for the bathroom, but when I go to change my baby, I snatch a wipe, run it under warm water and out I go. I think I have about 30 wipes, maybe more.

wel use FBW's exclusively. I have between 75-100, enough that our family of 3 can use them for a week without washing.

We have a bin on the back of the toilet with the fresh wipes. Used wipes go in a small flip top garbage can next to the toilet.

for #1 we use the wipes dry, straight out of the bin
for #2 we use the wipes dampened from the sink. Done while still sitting because our bathroom is small enough for that. You could dampen before if the room is larger.

I also carry a small bunch of wipes in a 2 pocketed wet bag (1/2 fresh, 1/2 used) because DD refuses to use TP while out. They also come in handy for cleaning messy faces and hands with a little water from my water bottle.

For washing I just dump the garbage can into the washer on hot with a little detergent. We have found that tossing a towel in with the wipes when they are in the dryer helps them not stick to the sides of the drum and impead the drying. Plus SO got tired of wipes getting stuck to his clothes when they'd fall off into the next load.

We've been using FBW's full time for 3 years, part time for 5. We still have TP around for guests but I couldn't tell you where SO keeps it. He just remembers to put it out when "normal people" are comming over. Too bad most people we know aren't normal!

We keep about 75+ on hand and just wash 'em when we do the diapers, or when we run out. We do the same thing, dry for #1, damp from the sink for #2. I have a wetbag hanging on the back of the bathroom door and we just drop 'em in there when they're dirty. We empty the bag into the washer, throw the bag in on top, and wash like usual.

We used to put paper out for guests, but then I kept forgetting and I've finally given up. I tell guests that if they don't want to use our wipes then they can drip dry, or bring their own tp, LOL!

We too use a double layer of flannel and find that they work really well in holding up over time. We wash when we do a dipes wash or sometimes throw them in with a towels load if we are really in need of some clean ones.

For DS' wipes, I keep a spray bottle of Baby Bits solution by his changing table and just moisten the wipes as we go.

Mine are a flannel and fleece combo. I have some thin hemp (hemparoos), but they don't work as well.
