Here is the sign I just typed up to post near the toilet for our guests. Most of our friends are pretty much stinky hippies, so I don't think that many of them will have a problem with it. If I had a lot friends that I knew would be freaked out by it, I would keep tp on hand.
Dear Friends~
We have chosen to use cloth wipes for our bathroom needs instead of toilet paper. Our bathroom wipes are cheaper than toilet paper and better for the environment. We wash them in two full wash cycles both on hot/hot. In the first load I add laundry detergent and Bac-Out, a natural enzyme cleaner commonly used for cloth diapers. In the second wash we add only vinegar to rinse any and all detergents that may want to stay in the cloth. This method is commonly used with cloth diapers and we find it very sanitary. If you think about it cloth bathroom wipes are not much different than cloth diapers, cloth baby wipes or cloth menstrual pads!
The clean wipes can be found on the back of the toilet. Please put the used wipes in the blue bucket in front of the toilet. Careful not to drop them in the toilet out of habit!
Enjoy!
Sincerely,
The Family

I'm still tettering on the cloth wipe issue. I think I just might have to join the cloth wipe movement after we move. Colin freaks out if I try to use a cloth wipe on him anymore because "I'm not a baby mommy those are for babies". But maybe if he sees me use them on myself he will use them again. I doubt I'll convince dh into using them.
priscilla- maybe just use them for yourself & the kids for now- will still be better in the long runb even if he never does make the swirch.

I try to keep paper toilet paper in the house in case we have a guest.
Be careful your cloth wipes aren't too pretty and sitting in a nice basket on the sink... guests mistake them for hand towels! LOL!
As far as converting others in the household - lead by example. At first the cloth wipes were just for me and DS who was wearing cloth dipes at the time. DH and DD said it was gross and nasty and they would never use it. Well, well, well... this past week we were on vacation, hence using toilet paper, and everyone complained "I hate using toilet paper! Ewww!" LOL!
Ok, we don't use cloth wipes for the toilet. My dh winces any time I mention it and says "NO WAY". How could I possibly change this man's mind?
My dh is the same way! I'm just leading by example right now. Dd is only 6 months so I'm certain as she gets older it won't be an issue for her as it will be want she grows up knowing. Maybe by the time dd is potty learning dh will come around. Well, I can hope anyway!

We have regular TP for guests. Very few people who visit my house would be okay with using cloth wipes.
DH wasn't too thrilled about it at first but it grew on him. I did the same thing another person suggested, I began using them for dd and I and eventually he came around.

I think that's great! Anyone that comes to our house has the option of using cloth or regular tp.... until we run out of flushable tp, that is!
As far as the DHs go, mine was pretty resistant, too, until I told him that once we ran out of flushable tp it was his job to go buy more. Sure enough we ran out of flushable tp, he used the wipes, and has been using them ever since, LOL!

Mama to my three darling girls.
Great idea for a sign! Bravo for bringing house guest into the light.
I don't know as if I'd personally go into such lengthy detail about how they are washed. It seems that someone might say --Geez what a waste of all that water!!! (not knowing the water waste used in manufacturing toilet paper) Also, if most of your friends are 'stinky hippies' then why such a lengthy detailed description of cloth wipes???
As soon as the master bathroom is finished (it's been a year this week that my dh has had it apart for renovation!!!) I'll be using cloth myself. I like it much better than paper, but I've got too much going on in the main bathroom to have an inch of space for another bucket, currently my soiled dipes are in there and once a month my little trash can for mamapads. My younger two should be easy to just keep using cloth wipes.
I won't even attempt to get dh into it. I'm not sure if I want to wash cloth wipes from his butt I wash enough stinkiness as it is... LOL

I describe the process of washing to let them know that I wash them enough as not to leave any doubt in the sanitation of our wipes. Also, although my friends may be open to the idea of the wipes, many have never heard of it, so I give the description to educate them on it.
As far as the other posters looking for advice on how to get their dh into it, I have no advice. My SO was on board with the idea, and if at any time he isn't he will go buy tp.
Well actually, we have tp in the house now, I bought some for camping and the leftover is in the bathroom. Now the guests have a choice. But I still like the idea of letting them know what is going on.
