Question Looking for 2 twin size natural mattresses.. inexpensive. Do they exist?

I have to replace the mattresses on Jack's and Keaton's beds. Keaton's is a platform twin size bed so no box spring is needed. Jack in on a top bunk so no box spring there as well. I would love a futon type mattress and made with natural material if possible. I need them cheap. Does anyone have a good source for such mattresses?

Keaton actually asked me to purchase an inflatable mattress that allows you to adjust the firmness. His aunt has one of these on her quest bed (bought as a temperary fix while the boys were visiting.. she hadn't gotten around to finishing this room in her new house). He loved the bed. I have since slept on it too and was very surprised. It was more comfortable than my own king size mattress. It is topped with a very soft, warm, cushy material. At first I told Keaton that it didn't sound like a feasible option. Now I'm actually wondering if perhaps it would work out. I'm not sure about the durability of them. They are quite inexpensive and we wouldn't have to worry about the outgasing of toxic fibers within. But I would feel like I'm throwing a cheap, blow up, pool toy on my kid's bed

so ... any ideas?

How about these futons?

They are a great company and quick to ship! I showed you a link to their cheapest futons - they have more pricey ones.

HTH some!

http://www.soaringheart.com has reasonable futons. They have child futons that are a little thinner. We own quit a few things from them since they are local.

I bought our sons crib mattresses from here. They have great customer service:

If that doesn't cut it, I found this when I was looking for natural bedding (I forgot all about EcoMall when I was looking).

If you find a good source, please share your experience after you buy?

My dh and I need a new mattress set......I really don't want to get a traditional mattress again. I swear with my allergies and asthma that our bed makes them worse. (I have more asthma attacks in our bedroom than anywhere else in the house) However, we can't begin to afford the 2,000-plus price tag on a natural mattress set. Dh is a BIG guy (over 300 lbs) so futon does not work for us....we have to have a very firm tough mattress.

Trying to live w/out chemicals can be so difficult for a middle class family............

michelle-if you know anyone in the shipping biz you can have our 1 yr old king organic cotton wool innerspring for free...it is an xtra firm and i weigh 108 lbs and dh is 135lbs...but we live in new zealand...
needless to say it is too hard!!!!!!!!!!!waaaahhh!

in the meantime-do you vacuum your mattress weekly and use allergy barriers for your pillows? if not, it might help.

Linda,

Oh I wish I knew someone in the shipping biz!

I have never vacuumed the mattress....I wash the mattress pad in hot once a month and wash the pillows in hot every couple months. I'll look for a barrier for my pillow....is this something easy to find in about any kind of discount shop? (pillow barrier)

Sorry to go OT onto allergy issues......I appreciate the suggestion.

My dad has a barrier on his mattress and pillows. I'm not sure where they got them. It did help his allergies though.

We have a latex bed and just bought the wool topper for it. It wasn't $2K, but it was expensive. We were very lucky and got ours at a store closing sale for 20% off.
