I know this has been discussed here before, but I can't find the threads about it. We are going to replace our teflon cookware and I'm looking for recommendations. We already have a cast-iron pan, but I'm looking for some other kinds of pots and pans. I want them to heat, evenly, be fairly heavy, be able to go in the dishwasher, and not have to be polished like copper does. I haven't looked at pots and pans since we got married about 8 years ago, so I am not familiar with which brands/stores are good quality and value.
I'm sorry I don't remember the thread address, but people brought up Le Creuset cookware which is enameled cast iron and worth every penny. You can find it on ebay for a very conservative sum.
I love my cuisinart stainless steel cookware. I bought it on amazon for quite a bit cheaper than anywhere else. It heats well, can be put in the dishwasher, non-teflon, affordable, non-reactionary, don't polish, easy to clean etc. I love it. I wish I had had it first time around... this is my 3rd cookware set in 6yrs!

I am gradually switching over to stainless steel cookware. I bought one skillet to start, and I LOVE it. It has a copper bottom, and it's just so sturdy and cleans beautifully. A set is definitely on my Christmas list!

I love love love my cast iron. Can't be put in the dishwasher, but it is so easy to wash up that it doesn't even need the dishwasher! I use my cast iron everyday- nothing sticks. And there are health benefits to using cast iron cookware- the iron leaches into the food, and is absorbable by the body, much more so than iron in pills.
