Super size me--xpost

My dh and I watched this documentary last night. It's amazing.

This man went from being heathy, vibrant, funny and engergetic to this fat, lethargic, sick blob. It was very disturbing.

It also talked about the marketing aimed at children. I was so angry at this I'm sure I had bulging veins. lol

On a serious note, dh and I have decided to ban all fast food from out lives. Unfortunately, we ate more than we should. Our lives are crazy busy and it was easy. But no more!!!

Has anyone else seen this documentary?

We saw it the first day it came out on video. Great movie. We had the kids watch it too. The girls and I eat fast food maybe 2x/year (and not McDs when we do) but it was good for dh to see. He probably eats fast food 1x/week and I'm always complaining about it!! Especially since we have healthy "fast food" choices in Olympia, so it isn't like he has to eat the crappy stuff.

By healthy fast food, I mean bagel sandwiches and burritos made with brown rice and real beans - not McDs salads.

I so agree Allison. The kids and I don't eat fast food much (but I bet more than yours) but dh eats it every chance he can get. It was good for him to see. The kids and I go down to Bayview and get begals and the little cream cheese packets, or go to the grocery store and get something there, like a bag of corn chips and hummus. It seems so much better (although it is convience foods). But Don watching that changed his resolve. I had asked that he go on a fast food fast about two weeks ago and he has really stuck to it. He still eats at work at night (which is total crap) but at least that is all the crap he is eating now.

Great movie in my estimation. I really loved how it did not over dramatize it a lot but it did make sure that we saw all of the nasty stuff that the food did to him. Sure strengthened my resolve.

Love Val

My dh said he would have never believed it if he hadn't seen the changes himself. I've been telling him it's not healthy for quite a while. But atleast we've made the change.

Now, does anyone know of a good documentary showing the damage of tv? lol Maybe then he'll believe me on that one also.

I don't get why we can't have *healthy* fast food choices. The girls and I drove to CA and back a few weeks ago. The food choices were awful!! Even when I stopped in larger cities and went in from the freeway I couldn't find good food - at least not what my family considers good. I would have gladly paid 4x McDs prices to have a quick, healthy meal in a restaurant where my kids could move around a little. I don't need fancy, just real food!

I don't think anyone does think it is healthy - well I hope not anyway. I just don't think people think it is as UNhealthy as the movie showed it to be. Even the Drs he went to see didn't think his health would change in one month, gain a couple pounds, maybe cholesterol would go up a little - that was it. But by day 15 they were telling him to stop or he could kill himself!

In my house, we don't call that "food", we call it fast crap, and even I was surprised at what it did to his body and how quickly it did so.

we just watched this and I'm having my 9yr watch it too. We eat fast food about 2-3xs a month and the kids would have it more if they could. My 9yr is about to go on a visit to his dad's where it's fast food 24/7 I'm hoping this will help him make better choices...

The experiment in the bonuses with the fries that never broke down amazed me!!
