Has anyone seen Supersize Me?

Oh, boy. My BIL watched this while I was visiting my IL's this weekend (DH was home working), so we watched it too. Now I have to get DH to watch it.

I told BIL that if he needed more convincing, I had heard Fast Food Nation was a good book to read. I also requested it at the library. As if I need more fuel...

I've got to make some drastic changes. I started working on going veggie and then strayed--my success is pretty much dependent upon the amount I am willing to cook since DH is not going to go veggie.

Anyway, I've got a month's worth of menus planned, so I'm hoping that will help keep us away from the McDonald's monster at least!!!

I rented it like an hour ago. Looking forward to watching it with dh... but that will have to be tomorrow because he specifically requested Van Hellsing for tonight. lol...

(I put Fast Food Nation on hold at the library about a month ago. There was 27 holds on it then. Seems like everyone is on this kick now... I am SO glad!!!)

We watched it and haven't had fast food since. I did great after reading Fast Food Nation but had slipped since becoming pregnant and tired.

I loved the messages in this movie, although I thought the drama of the results was a bit too played up. i.e. it took something away from the severity of the truth for me.
I read Fast Food Nation when it first came out, and held my McDon's (and other FF) ban for over two years. Then I had my dd, and the drive thru convenience lured me back in. . .like the horrible demon that it is. First it was, oh, I'll just get a shake. . .oh, but the fries are so good and I'm REALLY hungry cuz I'm bf'ing. . .aw, I really need some meat. . .ughhhhh
Now, as my dd is 23 months old and has just started saying the "M" word when we pass by one, my resolve is back on, even more vigilant than before. I hate the ubiquitous marketing tactics now even more than I did before I had children.
Would love to reread FFN and discuss it a bit. . .

I watched it this weekend. I wish my dh would have watched more of it with me. I thought it was good.

I agree that it was dramatized quite a bit, and I hope that doesn't detract from the truth for DH when he finally watches it. I requested it from the library for him to watch.

It is definitely going to change the way of life at the IL's. MIL stopped chemo a year ago, and is still struggling with some other health issues and not being fully back to par after the chemo, and so, she has stopped cooking. I don't think they live on McDonalds, but they eat take out all the time. Wonderful for someone with health problems, eh? If I lived closer, I suppose we could combine efforts, but we're an hour and a half away.

At least it will make it cheaper when we head that way for the weekend, I was just on the verge of complaining to DH that we always have to buy meals out when we go down there, adding to the expense (though it is sometimes covered by others), but we never eat healthy food when we're there.

Something's gotta give--and we've gotta be vigilant because I don't want to be sick, or want my kids to be sick all winter!!!!(not just the fast food, but crap in our house in general!!!)

Sorry to go on.
