I have already posted this in the market, but then thought this might be a better place to get a response. My husband is looking for boots for a renaissance costume, the thing is we don’t wear leather, or plastic, come to think of it. He wants something that is wool, or cotton or hemp maybe. I know it is HARD to find boots that aren’t leather, and that may be the only option if he wants boots, but it never hurts to inquire, right? So if anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate them, thank you!

hmmm i would think that it wouldnt be too difficult to make them out of wool, but for grownup shoes I would almost think the sole would NEED to be leather in order to hold up at all ... trying to think what else you could make them from ...

Ask the sewing mama's. I'm sure someone over there will know of a pattern or at least have some material suggestions. Heck, you might even find someone willing to make them. The sewing mama's love a challenge.
