I am debating getting a bread machine. I'm still not sure if I want to add another applience to the kitchen, kwim?
I currently make my bread in my kitchen aid mixer and bake in the oven, and we love it. But..... I am going to be at school for a longer amount of time next term (anotomy & physiology ) and I'm not sure if I want to spend my spare time baking bread.
Anywhooooo, what kind of bread maker do you use? I will be making ww bread. I would also love a horizontal loaf. Any input would be GREATLY appriciated

I have a Toastmaster. It's not the top of the line, but it gets the job done. It cost about $39.99. I have several of their appliances and I am pleased with them.
Good Luck with whatever you decide.

My Zojirushi turns 10 this June! I keep saying I won't replace it when it dies, so I can have the counter space back, especially since I like making bread by hand and have plenty of time to do it. However, it is not showing any signs of giving up. Mine doesn't have a horizontal loaf, because no bread machine did 10 years ago. The ones Zojirushi makes now do. I chose it because it was the highest rated one in Consumer Reports. I don't know if it still is. My aunt got a bread machine at the same time I did, but she got a Welbilt, which was the lowest rated. It made decent bread, but it croaked within less than 2 years. If you can afford it, it definitely pays to get a good one.

I dont remember how many chidlren are in your family, but I woudl highly recommend foregoing the bread machine and getting a BOSCH MIXER. (of course if you can swing the money for one)
Not only are they multi purpose (make dough, cookies, cake mixes, and mine has a heavy duty blender too) but you can make several loaves at one time. YEs, you do need to make the loaves yourself but it only takes a minute. I NEVER roll out my dough. I jsut use clean hands and form everything adn let the rising do its magic in the pan.
For us (we have alot of people in our family) this has been a better solution than bread machines. I have had 2 different ones before and they were ok. (cant remember the names of them but they were not as expensive and well made as the zojirushi or whatever that word is)

I have a 12YO Hitachi that makes some noise but still works well. It makes a tall square loaf. I also have a new Zojirushi V20 that makes a horizontal loaf. Right after DH bought my V20 Zojirushi came out with the X20 which has some features that I wish I had.
I went with the Zo because King Arthur Flour rated it highly.
We have a GE 2 lb horizontal loaf bread machine. My dh makes the bread in our family. He hasn't used it in months though. Not since he bought "The Bread Bible" book. He just uses his Kitchen Aid to mix and oven to bake. And my husband is a kitchen gadget addict, LOL. Honestly, he makes enough for 2 loaves every week. He puts one in the refrigerator and covers it. He bakes the other. Later in the week he takes the one out of the fridge and bakes it. Its not as easy as dump and forget but its not that hard either. He works a 40+ hour week (and 1 1/2 hour commute time a day) and still makes bread, ROFLMBO. Me, I'm a SAHM, and I never make bread. I think he just likes making bread, that's fine, cause I like eating it.

I have the Ultimate Breadman and I love it. I have used almost all the cycles which I never thought I would. I got it because of the different loaf sizes and it would handle whole wheat - many would not supposedly. Now that we are gluten-free, I am glad I got it. It and one other are supposedly the only two that can handle GF dough.

Wow! Your dh deserves a huge pat on the back!
I can relate about liking to make bread. I love it. The smell, texture and relaxation is great!!
