Is 100% nylon carpeting safer then 100% polyester carpeting?

I remember reading on this board a while back that someone suggested buying nylon shower curtains instead of vinyl because they are less toxic. Is there any truth to this and if so is nylon carpeting safer then polyester and does anyone have any experience with nylon carpeting?

TIA

synthetic carpets are treated with many chemicals. Although nylon is safer than polyester, considering it probably is treated with chemicals and has a synthetic backing, the answer would be not really.

We are going to either buy carpet for our stairs or do wood. The natural carpeting selection includes sisal (a grass like material) and wool carpet with a jute backing. You also have to be concerned about padding. Since cork is probably out of our budget, I was thinking of special ordering recycled carpet padding so the chemical level would be lower. (Can't find my catologue at this time that sales that padding; PM me if you want it and as soon as I find it, I'll reply. They also sale safecoat paints, natural mattresses and everything you can think of pretty much!)
