Silly post-Can you still be a hippie if you don't listen to Grateful Dead?

LOL!

My friend called me a hippie 'coz I cloth diaper, have family bed and still BF. I told her I couldn't be a hippie, because I don't like the Dead. (No flames, please. I think they were a very talented band, saw them a few times and they were awesome, but overall not my cup o' tea. I think Goth music is more my style, yet I digress...)

So, can you be a hippie and not listen to one of the biggest hippie bands of all time?

Thanks for indulging me-

Yes, I do believe so. I listen to rock/alternative rock bands and have been called a hippie. It is a mind set, more then wearing tiedye and what you listen too.

Yes, Definately!

Most of the dead head I used to know were really rich kids who dressed liked hippies and mommy & daddy paid for them to hang out and follow the dead around (in their BMWs ).

Personally, I think being a hippie depends on whether "groovy" is a standard word in your vocabulary (just kidding....)

lol! Of course you can! Following the Dead just makes you a groupie or a Dead Head - not neccesarily a hippie!

I dug the dead for a little while, but definitely not my cup o' tea either. People call me a tree huggin' hippie all the time.

I do hug trees, and am not a dead-head. And I'm definitely a tree huggin hippie like they tell me.

I'm LOL at this. We have a liberal arts college in town (The Evergreen State College) which helps create the very liberal feel to Olympia. Anyway, lots and lots of rich, trust funded, east coast kids go there, complete with beat up vw bus and dreads. We call them "trustafarians". Sounds like the same crew is following the dead.

LOL, Allison! Trustafarians! ROFL!

Hey, I never followed the Dead, but I have a Bus, and lived in it and traveled the country, without a dime from mommy and daddy, k?

And I like the Grateful Dead, and Phish, and many other "hippie" bands.

No dreads though. Never had them, never will.

Dh is working on sweet Bessie, our Bus, as we speak. We are getting her all prettied up and back on the road! She's a lovely Neptune blue (w/cloud white roof) '68 breadloaf Deluxe Microbus with two-tone gray and black interior. Very restorable condition and that is just what we are going to do.

I think ya can. Iget called hippie all the time these days and i don't listen to The Dead.
I do remeber being 21 oer so and at a party where i heard the dead and was totally surprised that it was "just old school style country music" i think it was some song about cocaine and trains who knows...
but i digress...I am in fact so unhippy-ish in taste that i actually have hair almost as short as Ian's.

And as an entirely unrelated side note Leonard Cohen is wondiferous!
