I bought some long ago before I knew about the problems with SLS and silly me...when I learned I didn't think about even checking the ingredients for some dumb reason so we still had it until Val (bluerosemama) pointed it out on another thread. Luckily dd thinks that it is cool to use Burts Lavender Mint because it is a kind of pinky-purply color. The taste is strong so she only uses a bit. And honestly she ends up swallowing most of it so I think the biggest benefit is not from the toothpaste itself but more from the action of brushing.

I'm sorry it isn't SLS free, but I thought I'd post it anyway since I have a little darling with a toothpaste prejudice (she judges waaaaaaay before she tastes). My DD has had problems with toothpaste ever since she was born. From "natural" to the buzz lightyear kind. Even the aforementioned "silly Strawberry" she hates it all. The ONLY ONE she has ever liked is a new kind: Tom's of maine natural liquid toothpaste. Goofy grape.
I tasted it too, and I just might switch. LOL (except I've found a brand with no SLS, and I don't have toothpaste aversion syndrome)
I know this is no real help to ~jenn~, but I had to post it, just in case it helps other mamas who would allow the SLS in this portion of daily life.
I'm sorry the burts bees one didn't work for you mama, but you're not alone.

We use Weleda children's tooth gel (Christine also still swallows her toothpaste cause she is three). They also have other flavors/types as well. No SLS, but I doubt any have fluoride in them. I use, myself, Jason's brand which has no SLS and their Plus ones have fluoride. I don't know which flavor a kid would like (maybe orange). I wouldn't recommend for kids the following two Jason's flavors: Healthy Mouth Paste (a clove, tea tree oil tasting toothpaste) or Peppermint to the Max (talk about flavor!).
I'll have to give the weleda a try. Last night and this morning wouldn't you know she didn't have a problem with the toothpaste. My 3 yodd won't get anywhere near it though...

My boys stopped using the Weleda stuff about a year ago when they stopped making it in the US and started selling the European version here instead. It just didn't taste the same. We were stuck with the Tom's stuff for a while, but I recently found a new one that the kids like - it is a german toothepaste - the brand is Lavera Med. It has sorta a bland fruity taste. The ingredients are: Sorbitol, Water, Silica, Calendula-Extract, Xanthan, Sea Salt, Redbeet extract, Mallow extract, Natural Aromas, Grain Alcohol.
Not too bad..

Marcey, do you get your Weleda's at the Common Market or do you have a cheaper source?
Dd has decided that she does like the Burt's Bees (after I told her it was healthy ) So she's using that for now, but my 3yodd still won't touch it so I may try the Weleda's for her.
I LOVE the weleda creme so if their toothpaste is as good then they have a new customer!
Since I'm in the market for a natural toothpaste sans flouride and SLS, can I get Lavera Med or Weleda's at say a Trader Joes or Sprouts/Whole Foods type place. TIA
